In 1991, director Steve Wang adapted the manga Bio Booster Armor Guyver into a live action film. A sequel was released in 1994.
Would these films be considered Americanized Tokusatsu or just some kind of rip-off of the form? They do feature a costumed hero in choreographed fight scenes with monsters in rubber suits. Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. |

Hard for me to say, I hated them(watched them after I watched the 3-6 part OVA series localized by US Renditions).

I've heard these films came under a bunch of executive meddling in order to 'localize' it.
Oh, & from what I've seen I see no reason not to consider it Tokusatsu. |

Live action special effects films, so yeah, I'd call them tokusatsu. Remember that even films and TV shows imported into Japan which meet the "live action special effects" criteria are considered "tokusatsu."

And you would be incorrect, unfortunately, as something which is animated by definition cannot be "tokusatsu." By definition, tokusatsu is live action.
Neither tokusatsu nor anime are genres. They are mediums.
