Some one on facebook was telling me he got rid of all his Super Sentai/Power Ranger toys because they aren't worth anything over time. Especially the DX mechas and megazords, even with original boxes. Is this true? I mean I have had people offer me a lot of money for my Jetman mechas, and I notice DX mechas from the 1980s can go for hundreds if not thousands of dollars. So are these toys a bad investment?

really depends on a lot of factors but i do know all the gao ranger power animals i just bought where more expensive then there original retail release even if i did import them
but i have noticed the price has gone down on some of the originals then what they use to be mint in box 93 megazord was going for really stupid high prices |

Nearly all sentai mecha appreciate in value. It's just that ones from the 70's & 80's have had much longer to appreciate and were made in fewer numbers at that point in time. A modern example of price depreciation in toys would be something like Go-Busters which has become increasingly easy to find inexpensively. But generally, at some point, sentai mecha always tend to go up in price.

It's a mix of multiple factors that many can make note of. While the item itself can raise and lower in price depending on the times, factors such as condition, if it's in box, if the box has been opened or not, whether it's complete, hell, even condition of the box, can all factor in on whether or not you have a hunk of cash on your hands.
Additionally, because they didn't make it to the states, you can expect a lot of Mecha from Jetman and earlier to go for more than post Zyu toys (However, you still can get a nice price on original Zyuranger, Dairanger, and Kakuranger mecha, since those had their original stickers replaced with the MMPR lightning bolts). Being an older figure doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a huge payout, however.

I think it depends how popular the show is too. Go-busters is not very popular in Japan, so the prices for most of the toys are going to be cheap since the demand for them are not very high. Same with Kamen Rider shows like Wizard since you can find belts and Wizard rings pretty cheap these days.

The condition of the box is no joke. I got a Gaburevolver and a Gokai cellular for $80 total shipped from Japan to me. The only flaw were the boxes had creases and tears. The Gokai Cellular was used in amazing condition and the Gaburevolver wasn't opened. The little things that we may ignore really do factor into the resale of toys.
