I hated all three of those Spider-Man movies. Toby McGuire was the wrong choice for Peter, Kirsten Dunst was a pisspoor Mary Jane Watson/Parker, the storytelling was WTF, and I won't even get into the frothing nerdrage that Christopher Grace has Venom brings out in me. No, his name is Christopher. I refuse to call him that idiot shortened name he calls him himself. Your name is Chris, deal with it.
They could've done it so much better. Even kept the same villians through it all. Allow me to explain.

Spider-Man. Introduce him, the powers, Uncle Ben dying, all of that goodness that belongs with Spidey. But his first act as a hero is saving Jonah's astronaut son from his crashed Space Shuttle, introducing him to the world. Unknown to him though during his rescue, when he fell into the river, he didn't come back to the surface covered in Hudsun Rover sludge... Now, before the big fight with Goblin (Because William Dafoe as Goblin was one of the choices I loved in that movie) the Black Suit takes him over completely. He's blamed for Osborne's death as Harry stumbles in on the fight, sets up the next movie.
Spider-Man 2. A Year or So after Spider-Man, Peter is working at the same Pizza Place. While freelancing for Jonah and trying to juggle College. But he's having nightmares brought on by the Symbiote. So he goes to see Curt. Curt sends up to the best Scientest he knows... Otto. And keep Mulina. Again, I loved that casting choice. I love Alfred. While researching the suit it tries to escape, breaks his equitment fusing him to his manipulater rig and killing his wife in the process... BOOM Doc Ock. Now Peter, during this time, finds he's been replaced by a full-time photog going by the name of Eddie. And it needs to be a real Eddie Brock. Big, Fade Hair Cut, Musculed. So he decides to start taking pics of himself as Spidey to show him up, takes his full-time gig, and pissed ole Eddie off. During the final battle with Ock, Peter stops himself before the suit can slaughter Otto and runs away to a nearby church. Where Eddie is waiting as he knows Spidey goes to the roof often to think, and waits to get his own chance of taking pics of Spidey to show up Peter. But he sees something through that telephoto lens.. Peter is Spidey! Peter breaks free of the Suit using the church bell, because that is iconic, just as Eddie reaches the belltower to try and get some up close shots as the final proof and the final nail in Peter's career coffin. But as he climbs the stairs the symbiote drips on him.. The final scene of the movie is Spidey escaping, and Venom being born.
Spider-Man 3. Venom is out to ruin Peter. He turns in the photos proving Peter is Spidey creating a citywide manhunt, as Spidey is still wanted for the death of Osborne. He ruins his relationship with Mary Jane since peter never told her who he was. Basically he destroys his entire life, much like the comics. But Peter finds himself through all the despair, dons the suit once again, knowing he has no choice. Even if he's arrested or killed... he has to stop Venom. And that brings about the final climactic battle! Venom. Spider-Man. Like we were promised. Venom has the upperhand, but Spider-Man has the brains. He tricks Venom into a turbine testing area and clicks it on ripping the suit away and burning it in the turbine. Destroying it forever. All is well. Brock is arrested, Peter is cleared, the city adores their savoir. ... But the last scene sets up a movie I wished happened. The scene is a dark alley, a disgusting black sac hangs from behind a dumpster just as a seriel killer ducks beside it to escape the cops hunting him down... But the sac breaks. A red ooze slips from inside.. covering this killer. This Cletus Cassidy! And the last scene is the symbiuote covering his face, and that twisted red and black grin... Right before the screen fades to black and we hear him murder the cops.

I'd give a kidney to see that shit.

Now onto why I was posting in the first place. The Fifth Element came on Starz again tonight and it has to be one of the most under-rated Sci-Fi movies ever. I don't know why it wasn't more popular honestly. Oldman's villian, Bruce Willis, Milla! Even Tricky was good, and I don't like Tricky. Still hoping they make a sequel.

I used to love the Raimi Spider-Man films, but since seeing ASM the main things I take away from them is:

- Willem Dafoe being fanatastic
- James Franco
- Aunt May wailing "taaaake the money"
- How many times Alfred Molina can say "precious tritium"
- Emo-Spidey being hilarious
- "How's the pie?" "So good."

Uh... Avengers was a fantastic movie. Sure, it is not as good as Dredd, but it was surprisingly better than The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man. The reason Avengers is great is because it is a super hero team movie done right with a decent plot and character development. You never get character development in team up movies, so it was nice to see some.

Those words go together like that? ASM and DKR were so much better than the Avengers. See, they had plot. Avengers was a two hour toy ad.

The Avengers was a poorly shot, poorly directed Michael Bay film with Superheroes in it. The final action sequence was just tacked on and gratuitously long, it had basically no plot beyond 'lol plot device' and that would have been fine but none of the character focus was even interesting. This movie suuuuucks. And like I say it angers me because Man of Steel for example was basically the Avengers, minus the team but with an actual story and everyone calls that movie 'dumb' or 'gratuitous', then why the fuck does Avengers get a free pass? Is it because there was so little to the film that it is impossible to criticise? Because you should criticise that the film was a paper thin toy commercial, it sucked.

That's exactly what Avengers was. Transformers. Just replace Optimus Prime with Captain America. Meanwhile Dark Knight, while long, had an excellent plot. I did not see that twist happening in the end with Bane. And Amazing Spider-Man completely washed away the bad taste Sam Raimi left with his trilogy.

Well, there's your problem.
You instantly assume that, because you didn't like it, no one liked it, but everyone is choosing to let it slide. Your statements make it seem like you can't comprehend why anyone could like the Avengers just because you didn't.

Superman is an archetypal story that's been mimicked and parodied to death. The primary criticism I've read concerning Man of Steel (Outside of the massive property damage) is that it's another origin, and considering most people knew Superman's origin before they could walk, it's valid.

Anyway, Avengers has it's own flaws and issues. No one is saying it doesn't and no one is denying it. However, you're assuming that, because it shares flaws with other "Popular to hate" movies, it means we have to either put up or shut up, despite films like Bay's Transformers having more glaring and jarring flaws that people loathed, not just "This one part was inconsistent with this other part."

If you compare the Avengers to the Transformers in complete seriousness, it's hard to take your statements seriously because they're different in almost every respect, the only real similarity being "They're action films."
