what I would like the starters to end up as here will something like a grass-dark fighter-ghost or pysic and water ice, but I dont see that happening.

I just hope they change how Feebas evolves. I don't own 2 3DS's, so "Trade with yourself" isn't an option for me in X and Y...

Doesn't Feebas evolve when it levels up while it has max beauty?

In Gen V it was changed to being traded while holding a Prism Scale, since the Beauty stat had been removed.

Mildly, because Feebas wasn't a trade evolution Pokemon until Gen V.

Gen III: Feebas is introduced. Evolves into Milotic by maxing out it's Beauty stat.
Gen IV: Much of the same. Feebas evolves into Milotic by maxing out it's Beauty stat.
Gen V: Beauty stat is removed entirely. A new item called the Prism Scale is introduced that, when Feebas is traded while holding it, evolves it into Milotic.
