As much as I love those two (Vinyl more so than Octavia) I'd like to try and focus on ponies that don't get much attention in the fandom. Vinyl and Octavia have enough fanfiction that does the two a lot better than I could and I don't feel like I have much to add to them.

I love Octavia, but the comics did reveal a side of her rarely explored by fanfiction and other such works

Yeah... Plus, I'm trying to keep this mostly in Ponyville. So having Octavia as a main character might prove... problematic.

That when she's mad, she isn't one to argue with

After coming off dozens of fanfics where Octavia is calm, collected, and never has a temper, it's nice to see her get angry
