I did not start watching SS until Gokaiger so Megaforce would be new to me. But why two years again?

I get the feeling Nickelodeon pretty much said to them 'take it or leave it' over the 2 years thing. Also gives Bandai an excuse to make more toys.

Saban Brands has a television deal with Nick through the year 2014. It states that Nick will help foot the bill to produce 40 episodes of Power Rangers with Saban Brands, but that it's broken in to two 20 episode seasons.

Thus, Power Rangers Samurai was broken in to "Samurai" and "Super Samurai", and split between 2011 and 2012.

With the follow-up season of Megaforce (a Goseiger adaption which we learned Saban Brands is contractually obligated to adapt), it will follow the same pattern based on the deal with Nick ... two 20 episode seasons over two years.

Now that Saban Brands has purchased the 4K!DS programming block, if it's still around in 2015 I fully expect Power Rangers to shift to that channel.

It's sad about the Nick situation but Nick's involvement does some have some positive points. Their marketing of Samurai may be occasionally lackluster, but it's good enough to make Power Rangers popular again. Plus, based on the casting sides, Nick may play a hand in better-written dialogue for Megaforce, with character relationships being similar to their flagship shows like iCarly.

It's obvious that Nick didn't play a role in the Samurai writing, as it's been shown time and time again to just be a Google translation of the Sentai version.

Indeed, Samurai was a rush job through and through. They even admitted as much during the Licensing Expo.

It was probably because everyone bitched about how different Disney PR seasons tended to be from their Sentai counterparts.
So Saban thought "Let's keep the next series as faithful as possible!" and proceeded to do so with the series covered in Japanese history and tradition.
