That's pretty close to how the New 52 Personality of Shazam is.

There was a lot more to it than just one long action sequence. There was lots of character moments between Vic and his father, Vic and Billy, Billy and his family, Wonder Woman talking to the protestors, and other scenes.

I personally have no qualms with the New 52, it's not the first time the DCU was rebooted. Sure I miss characters from before it, but people still miss Pre-Crisis Supergirl too.

I didn't really like Shazam's inclusion in the story either. His bits did feel a bit shoehorned in. Other than that I though it was a great film though.

Was that mid-credits scene a setup to that Atlantis storyline Justice League did? I presume that's why they dropped Aquaman from the film?

THe problem is not Captain Marvel himself, but Billy. Billy is supposed to be this kind hearted always positive and respectful kid because he doesn't have a true family, so he makes what he has worth it. That is why he is able to become Captain Marvel. Here, he was just a little snot nosed shit who was a thief and unlikable. Why would Shazam give his powers to Billy? The boy needs a smack across the face and a spanking more than he needs super powers.
