I liked this one. The Set up for Star Ninger is quite nice.
Star Ninger himself is pretty okay. I hate his constant Yeehaws and Party Night and his morpher is still the dumbest thing ever. The character itself is pretty nice though and I like all the thematical stuff they have going on with him. Unfortunately, between all the posturing and Yee-Hawing, StarNinger comes off as a watered down KR Mach 2.0. And also... still hate the actor they cast. More than ever after watching the episode again. Ugh. |

None of you have figured it out yet.
They made a ranger that is a cowboy (while historically inaccurate), a representation of Western American culture (which is equally historically inaccurate on our side as well). And his morpher is a hamburger, also a representation of our overindulgent Western American culture. I can't tell if I should be insulted or amused. Right now I'm amused. And I don't want this to devolve, I really really don't. But remind me again who's brilliant idea this character was? Maybe I'm reading too much into it? Or is he just too silly? On the lighter side of things, I thought the episode actually was good, even though there was no good reason for Star Ninger to attack first, and then show hero worship. That's just crazy.

Yeah... you'd have to be pretty dull not to realize he's a blatant critique of American culture. Like Japan's view of America, I expect StarNinger to end up being simultaneously aspirational and insulting.

I don't see how someone could be insulted by him though it does take a lot to insult me I probably would not understand

Same old same old. The show still has pacing issues, and the red is unlikeable, to me at least. StarNinja too, annoyingly. He's far too obnoxious for me to like, and just seems to be there to add unnecessary conflict, especially considering the scene at the end. And he doesn't even seem like a badass- he took two morphs and the red ranger did some of the work anyway.

Starninger has exceeded my expectations by a lot. I like how he generally is another takaharu except he's turnt down and I like how he has a guitar sword gun. But the best thing about him is the finisher selfie, a finisher selfie!

Star Ninger is good, he's rock, but he say to much English, "Yee-haw" too much. Finishing then take selfie, lol.
Look like the Grandchildren of Last Ninja is no match for him. |

Well, I said I'd come back when Star Ninger arrived so I could see how bad of a stereotype he was.
Pretty bad, it turns out: dressed like a cowboy, apparently lives somewhere near a covered wagon, loves rock and roll, and morphs with a cheeseburger. I'm pretty sure the writer just wrote down the first four or five things that came up when he heard the word "American" and decided to make all of them part of the character. It could've been worse, though, I suppose. I was honestly expecting a lot more "obviously doesn't really know the language" English. Anyhoo, done with Ninninger for good now, barring another Kakuranger and/or Hurricaneger appearance. Ciao! |
