Like Suzu said, it's more to do with what the writer wanted, not just the age of the series.

That being said, there are more "Older" Sentai that had better beginnings than newer ones (The pacing of the series as a whole is something entirely different, though. Liveman's hyper speed start is met with an incredibly slow slog of episodes afterwards).

It just seems like, in general, newer shows seem to start up quicker than older ones. I haven't seen every series so I can't say for sure, but I haven't seen an "older" series that shows a mecha in the first episode, only "newer" ones.

I can't say for certain because I'm incredibly picky with my Sentai, so I'm intentionally watching the well paced stories.

That may be a budget or scheduling thing though. Considering mecha fights usually need extra suits, an extra studio and extra effects, it might just have been a matter of time and money back in the day.

Great first episodes for me include:

Fiveman
Liveman
Dairanger
Zyuranger
Jetman
Timeranger
Gingaman
Gokaiger
Ohranger
Go-Buster
Ninninger
Magiranger

Unfortunately, not all of those series stayed great after the first episode. Others that had bad first episodes became excellent series.
