I saw episode 1 of Persona 4 and it was pretty awesome. Never played the game, I plan on watching the show after I finished my final soon. People tell me to watch the first show first before I watch Golden.

I am currently watching the English dubbed version of the third episode of Sailor Crystal. The scene in this episode with Rei quickly figuring out that Sailor Moon and Usagi are one and the same just as soon as she regains consciousness with the latter trying to deny it albeit very badly which in turn causes Luna to facepalm is just one of those things that really make this series worth it to me.

The next anime I'm gonna watch is Ninja Slayer. I decided that based on the artstyle, polarizing views on the series and the awesome opening.

So I just finished Yuki Yuna, and after 12 episodes it's average at best. Not trying to step on any toes here since I know quite a few liked this one when it first aired but I'm just being honest.
Okay, first off let me say there were a few things I did like about this series. For one thing the music and visuals were breath taking at times and as a die hard animation enthusiast had me hooked from episode 1. Second, the comedy was spot on with only a few jokes/gags falling flat. My personal favorite being the instances involving a particular note pad. People who've seen the series know what I'm talking about. Lastly, the characters were very well defined and I can say I at the least didn't hate them which is a high compliment I swear. If I had to pick a favorite it'd probably be Karin due to the subtlety in her portrayal and growth throughout the story. If the rest of the series was handled the same as she was from a writing stand point I probably would've liked it a lot more. Probably... because as much as I can say I enjoyed this series it has more than it's fair share of problems. First a fore more being the ungodly amount of boob bouncing, ass shots and other forms of sexualization this series has spewn through it. I looked up the intro to this series and there were two acounts of this both from the same character. I'm sorry, but the only series I'll accept this from is Kill La Kill which was pretty much a walking joke from the word go, not a drama series expecting me to take it seriously. Speaking of, even if the fanservice wasn't there it would be pretty hard to take this thing seriously with just how sloppy the story is presented. Various boughts of exposition take up a majority of how all the blanks are filled in and rather than have a few good flash back bits to do all this the writters thought it better to haphazardly shoot disjointed dialogue between characters making it frustrating to put a sensible time line together. Now normally this really wouldn't be a problem as usually I can look past backstories that don't make logical sense, (See the history of Inuyasha and Kikyo for an example) as usually it's just a one time thing. But it's not only in the backstory but rather in the main story as well, with needless dialogue and systems that are put in place to try and seem original but instead make what should be a moving short story into something overly complicated and confusing. When I first heard of this series, the initial pitch was that it was Madoka Magica but on a far greater scale. However after watching it in full I can tell this truly is not the case. With Madoka being as over blown as it is it's hard to say it's good and be credible anymore. But at the very least I can say that Madoka had a far better story and characters due to the fact that it took it's time, remained simple and became something that I will always hold dear. Yuki Yuna on other hand I'll be glad I watched but will most likely move past. Though it has tought me one very valuable thing, things are often imitated but never bested. |

I've been making some progress on Futari wa myself. I'm on episode 17 I think, it's finally getting pretty fun. There's been a lot more focus on the team dynamic and it's pretty cool. The episode at the lake was fricking great.
Also, I fucking love Honoka. It's a shame she isn't the main main character, I think she'd have half a chance of displacing Tsubomi as My Favorite. (Just half though, Tsubomi is literally perfection). Speaking of Precure being good, Princess has been on a roll for a while now. We're in the home stretch and it's still looking really strong. This was a good series with which to start this franchise. |
