I dunno, I think both franchises are pretty cool, even if the more recent shows in either one of them don't appeal to me a lot of the time.

It's a fresher concept for you, so you're enthralled with all the new weirdness Rider has to offer. I think a lot of criticism of Drive and Ghost stems from both shows being very conventional as far as Rider series go -- there aren't a lot of twists or subversions or surprises that make these shows exciting for many longterm fans. Once you watch a few more Rider shows, you'll start to pick up on the franchise's repeated tropes, and you'll probably begin to see why many get frustrated with these two shows in particular. As a Sentai fan first, I remember discovering Kamen Rider. The first shows I watched -- OOOs, Fourze, and Kiva -- blew my brain to bits, and I began to think Kamen Rider was the franchise that made my toku heart the happiest. Cut to a few years later, and I have a bunch more series under my belt. I'm way more desensitized to Rider's tropes. As such, I've gravitated back to my first toku love: Sentai. I fully am aware that my initial "oh my god Kamen Rider is the best thing ever" high will end, but looking past that I still already feel like KR has much more to offer. Anyways, so what I'm gathering is that people are disappointed with Ghost and Drive more due to their context within the series?

Okay, that's enough you guys. Let's get back on the topic of this thread- asking questions about Sentai.

Here's a question, why was there that period between Car an Time where there were English versions of the Theme songs, several of which done by some girl named Mickey?

Sorry, I didn't see your post until after I had made that one. I always just assumed it's because English was cool and it would sell a few more soundtracks. It'd explain why other tokusatsu themes inexplicably have English versions too. |
