Am I remembering rightly in that pre Sun/Moon, you had collected (or were close to collecting) every shiny variant?

And you got a lot of those through trading?

Some were traded, most were transferred from older games.

This was legit and so was what I traded, a regular Level 100 Uxie I've had transferred from Platinum.
