I don't see any thread for episode 43, so I decided to make one.
In the scene @ 00:23, when Shouma is looking at the photo of a young Michiru (his mom) that Hanto took in episode 41 @ 12:57, in a very very very convenient coincidence, Masaru/candy store owner guy/Mr. Hidamari calls Hanto's smartphone. Masaru says that he wants to meet up with Hanto to talk about Michiru, his younger sister who went missing about 20 years ago. Just when Hanto can't decide on how much should he answer if Masaru starts asking questions, Shouma also asks to join in the meetup to hear more about Masaru's side of the story. In the scene @ 01:59, Nyelv is reporting to Bocca that the preliminary experiments for Bocca's mass human manipulation grand plan have been successful. He says that the next presidential election is coming soon, so Bocca is preparing to inspect the human world and is planning to suck it dry until the last drips. I think perhaps Bocca's endgame (about transforming the entire human world into a planet-scale Hito Press farm) is part of his ultimate political scheme of manipulating virtually all of Granute's population by using Dark Snacks. Buuuuuttttt, at the beginning of episode 41, it was shown that he already had the dead body of his assassinated political rival whom he said to possess hypnosis power. If Nyelv was able to combine the poor Granute politician's body with Kenzou's body, then he should've been able to combine it with another Granute's body, and then used it to hypnotize the entire Granute population. Which means: Bocca already had all the ingredients to create his ultimate tool of mass hypnosis that he'd ultimately use as his political weapon, without even involving Stomach corporation (except Nyelv) Dark Snacks, kidnapping humans, and all that crap. Bocca's convoluted endgame (about transforming the entire human world into a planet-scale Hito Press farm) is just the same exact plan with 10 extra steps, which of course, will end in Bocca's (and Liselle's) death, haha. ![]() ![]() ![]() What he should do is: - Keep the dead body of his assassinated political rival who he said to possess hypnosis power. - Combine it with another Granute's body. - Use it to manipulate the entire Granute population. - Win the election and be the dictator president for the next 100 years. Instead, what he's actually been doing is: - Keep the dead body of his assassinated political rival who he said to possess hypnosis power. - Combine it with a human's body. - Use it to manipulate the entire human population. - Use the entire human population as ingredients of Dark Snacks. - Feed the Dark Snacks to the entire Granute population and manipulate them. - Win the election and be the dictator president for the next 100 years. - Of course, his convoluted plan will be screwed up at the last minutes by the protagonists, and it will end in Bocca's (and Liselle's) death. Instead of winning the election by using a simple, straightforward plan, he's decided to use an uber-convoluted plan that will result in his own death. If this is what'll actually happen in the story, then I can only say: What a dumb politician Bocca is! ![]() ![]() ![]() In the scene @ 04:19, Hanto is meeting up with Masaru with the pretense of renting Sachika's shop as a conference room, obviously to make it easy for Shouma to listen to their conversation. Masaru immediately loses his calm demeanor when he shows to Hanto an article that says Granutes have been kidnapping humans for 20 years, in coincidence with Michiru's disappearance. He says that he's been considering worst-case scenarios for Michiru's disappearance, but he never even considered that she had been kidnapped and eaten by monsters. Naturally, he loses his cool even more. Although Hanto does admit that he's been investigating the Granute cases, he's in a difficult position and is unable to tell more details to Masaru, who says that it's impossible for Hanto to understand his situation, not knowing that Hanto's situation (about his mom's kidnapping) is actually almost as identical as his. In the scene @ 07:45, Bocca (in his human disguise) is going on an inspection tour in the human world with Liselle and is taking a look around several locations, and his dubbed voice sounds weird, haha. ![]() In the scene @ 08:34, Jeebh is training as KR Bitter Gavv v3.0 under Nyelv's supervision. I thought in my post in episode 42 last week here that the opponent is Lango Mango, but they're actually just virtual simulations of his agents. While Nyelv says that Jeebh is getting stronger due to him having been used to the Henshin Belt Bitter Gavv/kuro Gabu, there's something weird in Nyelv's smile that kinda says that he doesn't say what he means. In the scene @ 10:15, Shouma regrets that he wasn't able to tell Masaru anything about himself or his mom during the previous meetup. He says he's never seen Masaru/candy store owner guy/Mr. Hidamari break his calm demeanor. Hanto compares Shouma's and Masaru's situation to his, and says that he's glad that he's found the truth about his mom, and thinks that Shouma also needs to consider that possibility. I think perhaps in the next 2 or 3 episodes, Shouma himself would have the guts to finally decide to tell Masaru about the truth about their familial connection, and more importantly, the truth about Michiru's fate. It's great that Shouma has finally found the resolve and manned up, but this is already episode 43! The last 20 % of the story (about 8-10 episodes) should be reserved for the elaboration of the endgame arc of the story, not the resolution of the protagonist's inner fear. Even Houtarou Ichinose/KR Gotchard had already stopped being a chicken by episode 24 (the debut episode of KR Iron Gotchard). The the-hidden-familial-connection-between-Shouma-and-Masaru subplot has been dragged for waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy too long. In the scene @ 11:51, Lage 9 is casually taking a stroll in the city, and, as usual in this atrocious story, in a very very very convenient coincidence, Bocca and Liselle are visiting the exact same location at the same time. Bocca says the he has the idea of using the buildings in the human world should be used for food for lower class Granutes, and proceeds to casually destroy a building just to obtain a small sample of it. Lage 9 (who has been conveniently located there by the writers), of course, is pissed off. Just when he's about to transform, in the laziest, cheapest, most atrocious way, the writers pulled a Yuuya by making his Vrastum Gear get snatched by one of Bocca's agents @ 13:00. I and my gf laughed soooooooooooooooooooooooo hard at how dumb that scene is. How the heck is Lage 9 totally unable to sense the presence of one of Bocca agents right beside him? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Gavv 43 @ 13:00 ![]() In the scene @ 14:06, Shouma is visiting Masaru's candy/snack store to buy some new stuffs. Masaru offers him a sample of the new melon jelly. He says Shouma's way of enjoying snacks reminds him of Michiru. He also says that his store is actually his childhood home that he intended to leave for Michiru. He's still desperate to know about Michiru' whereabouts that he believes that Michiru will come home alive and will be happy when she sees his store. Perhaps Shouma would inherit the store later from Masaru in the epilogue of the story. Oh, and why does Shouma produce the Prujelly RG more than 1 minute after he swallow the melon jelly, not immediately after it? ![]() ![]() In the scene @ 17:52, Hanto and Shouma encounter Bocca and Liselle. Bocca formally introduces himself to the protagonists as the president of the Granute world, and declares his intention of owning the entire human world. The Prujelly RG is actually just used for attacks (for rendering KR Gavv Caking form's Whip Soldiers invisible), not for a new form for KR Vram. Well, at least it's not used by Sachika the heroine-with-virtually-no-backstory-except-2-mundane-facts-that-she-has-a-filthy-rich-grandma-and-that-she-lives-in-the-same-apartment-complex-as-Ritsu to transform into a Rider, haha. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the scene @ 21:49, Shouma says that he's decided not to tell Masaru/candy store owner guy/Mr. Hidamari anything for the time being. Perhaps he'd tell him when the moment is convenient for the plot, probably nearing/during Bocca's full-scale invasion into the human world. In the scene @ 22:40, Nyelv is looking at the data on his tablet, and while he concludes that the data from Jeebh's training as KR Bitter Gavv v3.0 under his supervision earlier is not bad, it's still inferior to the data from Shouma/aka Gabu. So this is what he actually meant behind his weird smile earlier. And, based on the data, he's planning to join forces with Shouma/aka Gabu? After all his betrayals so far, how the heck is he gonna gain Shouma's trust? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The sequence of events could go like this: -> Liselle (aka Bocca's emotional vulnerability) gets killed by the Riders. -> Bocca enters wrath mode. -> Bocca invades the human world and defeats the protagonists to the point of total desperation, especially Shouma/KR Gavv. -> Nyelv offers to help Shouma/KR Gavv defeat Bocca in the form of a new, dangerous berserker RG. -> Shouma/KR Gavv manages to defeat Bocca. -> Bocca's position is usurped by Nyelv. -> Lango Mango is trying to take back Stomach corporation from Nyelv. -> Lango Mango manages to defeat Nyelv and emerge as the final villain. -> Shouma/KR Gavv, who is able to neutralize the berserker RG's power after he tells Masaru the truth about their connection, manages to defeat the new, improved version of Lango Mango. -> End. Ouch, dang it. I completely forgot about Jeebh! Where the heck does he fit in all this mess? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oh, and Lango Mango is totally absent in this episode after his official return to the story in episode 42 last week. The writers not only wrote themselves into the corner because they were struggling to resolve Jeebh's plot, but now also because they had a hard time fitting Lango Mango into the story after his return. Well, that's what you get for making an uber-convoluted story. Congratulations, Gavv's writers and producers! You played yourselves. *facepalm *slow clap Next week: Hajime the kid of the week in episodes 1-2 returns. What's Lage 9 doing at an amusement park? The cameo (or full episode appearance?) of Caries/KR Caries from Gavv's summer film. This episode is written by Saburo Yatsude, so this could be a full episode appearance. Who is the new part-timer guy in the preview section @ 23:17? Is he Caries' lackey (forgot his name)? Or is he the adult version of Hajime the kid of the week? Or is he the untransformed KR Zeztz? ![]() ![]() Mmmmmmmmmmaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyybbbbbbbbbbeeeeeeeeee... |

Much of the episode is devoted to the drama of Shouma's relationship with his only human relative. He is hesitant to confess to Masaru, which is reminiscent of the situation with Hanto's mother in earlier episodes. Shouma is a character with flaws, and one of them is indecisiveness, especially when it comes to unpleasant truths. And this has not changed after a year of living and being a hero in the human world. Masaru's emotional reaction frightens him and makes him keep silent about the truth. Hanto tries to cheer him up, but also decides not to give him too much hope. And a new conversation with Masaru convinces Shouma to keep quiet. At least for now.
At the same time, Bocca visits the human world for an inspection. He decides that the people will go to Dark Treats, and the buildings - to feed the poor Granutes. Liesel is upset that her father doesn't see more in the human world, but not too much. Most likely, she hopes that after the capture, Bocca will leave his daughter a piece for fun. We also learn that elections are coming soon, and that is why Bocca needs mass production of Dark Treats. Lakia is the first to encounter the president and becomes a punching bag, because Bocca's minions are masters of disarmament. Later, Gavv and Valen manage to transform and have a successful, albeit difficult, fight. The spear stand was especially memorable. This show loves spectacular, risky stunts. However, one single energy strike from Bokka instantly knocks the riders out of the henshin. However, Gavv still has Over Mode in reserve. Аlso, Nyelve is not impressed by Jeebh's progress and he is planning something. But what exactly will become clear later. Overall, a solid episode, ending (or rather postponing for later) the dramatic part and preparing the foundation for the final episode. I liked it. |

Final boss debut.
As Masaru noted, Michiru is indeed strong mentally; she does not break in spirit under the dire circumstances she faces in the Granute World, where she continues to raise Shoma with motherly care. In contrast, Masaru admits he would struggle emotionally, as he is in denial about the truth of Michiru's fate. For now, Shoma keeps the truth about their relationship, which would clarify Michiru's situation, from him. I wonder if the villains will expose this to break the heroes' morale later. Hanto implies to Masaru that Michiru was eaten by the monsters, like Sae. While Michiru wasn’t eaten and did not die immediately, it does indicate that she was kidnapped against her will. It seems less likely that Michiru genuinely married Bouche. I can see a possibility (but not guaranteed) of Masaru becoming hostile toward Shoma upon this revelation, with him losing his composure toward Hanto here, though he realized his outburst afterward. This time, the enemies are aware of how Kamen Riders henshin using their belt, so Bocca's Agents actually interrupt Rakia's henshin and beat him up in his human form. Bocca observes how Gavv CaKing and Valen Frappe fight without directly intervening, only attacking them after they defeat his Agents to prevent them from pursuing him. Bocca ultimately leaves all three Granute Hunters alive. It’s a clever use of the Whipped Soldiers as platforms for Gavv when he is thrown from heights. Jeebh continues to use his current Bitter Gavv to train against the Agents and grow stronger, and Nyelv remains on good terms with him, consulting on whether he has improved. Unlike the time with zombie Suga, Nyelv does not provide enhancements to Jeebh. However, in the end, Nyelv decides to work with someone else, likely Lango. Nyelv also shows some disapproval of Jaldak’s plans in this situation.

I will give this episode 4/5
I dislike how Bocca Zoldak is played by a handsome young Junon dude. I would have wished he be portrayed by someone older looking. I know that this is just his human form but still. Zoldak's minion's preventing Lakia from transforming was a surprising bit of competency. Most rider villains have the decency and class to wait until their opponent is ready. The fight scene with the Whipped Soldiers helping out was great.

Underrated moment, but Jeep's surprisingly positive attitude when speaking with Nyelv caught me off guard. I know it's mostly from the (False) affirmation that he's strong enough to fight Shouma, but part of me wants to think it's from Jeep cherishing the last of his family. After all, the attention from Nyelv is probably the most time he's spent with any family member after the loss of Shiita.
Anyway, Bocca's agent grabbing Vram's belt before he can transform was a funny moment. That was an ass whooping and a half. Even if he was getting jumped. Moments with Masaru were nice, but nothing ground breaking, and the Whipped Soldiers continue to please. Curious why they're so steadfast in keeping Lizel's real form hidden, though. It's not like it's going to be some big reveal...

Great episode with the main rider fight against the president. He is very strong and we see how jeep is trying to get stronger.
Nyelv has some plans of his own at the end he said he needs to work with Shoma to defeat Bocca soon. It going to get wild in the next few episodes. |

![]() So, two things I already knew about this show that this episode has me feeling even more appreciative of. One is the dedication in the action scenes to always having some notably cool and creative moment. Usually way more than just *a* moment, too, of course, but even in a fight like the one that caps off this episode, which doesn't have a particularly grand narrative context (a major villain's first time... watching Gavv and Valen!), it's still totally thrilling and engaging because even close to 30 episodes after Caking's debut, the crew on this series can still think up clever new ways to use the Whipped Soldiers. There's still fun the show has yet to have with Frappe Custom's two-in-one Gochizo. We seem to have finally hit the point where I can't count on PoppinGummy always getting to show up, but not only are older forms still making regular appearances even with Over Mode and Master Mode around, they get to look just as cool while they're doing it. I've praised Gavv for similar reasons in the past, and I'm that much more impressed now, when there are less than ten episodes left, and yet those sentiments are still holding just as true as ever. I'd have been satisfied enough merely to see an early power-up getting ineffectually slapped around this late in the game, as long as it was at least there, but Gavv just keeps going beyond. So much variety, so much imagination, so much excitement, week after week. The other big thing I want to note is that the human drama this week was also great, because the action has always been but one facet of why I'm so enamored with Gavv. I'll mention this episode was written by Mouri, but this time it's only because I want to make sure I'm giving him due credit. Outside of that, there's no need to bring it up whatsoever, because all the great conversations driving the plot of this one are filled with such Gavv-y nuances that I literally can't imagine what small touches Koumura could've brought to the table that aren't already there? The whole concept of the episode is a real winner to begin with, and none of that potential goes to waste. The show has been patiently working Masaru into the story for a long while at this point, and while it was always fairly obvious there would be some revelation about him that would affect Shouma in a major way, what ends up making that twist compelling here is as much about how that revelation affects Masaru himself, without him even fully realizing the scope of it yet. Entirely deliberately, looking at Masaru has kinda been like looking at Shouma himself. They share the same kind and gentle disposition, and now we finally learn that -- as with so many characters in this show -- they also share a similar pain underneath that. It makes Masaru that much more relevant to the overall narrative in terms of both plot and themes, but the thing I find most fascinating is that idea of seeing a character like this entirely from the outside for so long. That's the unique angle. A lot of the beauty of Gavv is in the sheer emotional intimacy with which it explores the trauma of its heroes, really letting the viewer feel everything alongside them, and Shouma considering this whole new side of someone he knows had me considering in a whole new way how much I maybe take that for granted. Finding out Masaru is Shouma's uncle is a solid soap opera twist for sure, but the much more impressive twist to me is realizing I've been looking at this man the way lots of people in-universe probably look at Shouma, not knowing his whole life story.
