What people need to keep in mind about Project R.E.D. "failing" is that for Toei to change course and and say pivot back to super sentai Project R.E.D. would not "just" need to fail... it would have to "SPECTACULARLY" fail.
Ratings and merch sales would have to be below what Super Sentai has made in the past few years. If lets say Project Red does the same as Gozyuger then they will stay the course because there's always a chance it could get better and according to recent interviews they seem to have an "at minimum" five year plan of worldbuilding in mind. Furthermore from what I understand I understand what sold the most in the Super Sentai merch was the Roleplay Henshin Devices while the rest of the figures and "Zords" sold poorly in Japan. And if the Toy listing leaks for Gavan Infinity are true The toys are the gun (which is said to be the Henshin Device) Robots that transform and combine with the gun and batteries you insert in the gun to make different sounds. This is a clear indication that they are hedging their bets and are backing what they belive to be a winning marketing strategy. Now, will it work? Only time will tell. But failure seems unlikely, again, failure being PR performing worse than SS. if it performs as well as SS then they can just coast and try to retool the show until ratings/sales improve. |

Listen, don't worry too much about it okay. I think I over-reacted a little, I'm sorry about that. The holidays are kind of a tough season for me. Me trying to act like I'm so much smarter is probably dumb too, if that makes sense. We're all a little dumb in our unique way, is my point I suppose haha, so its not strange.
If it makes you feel any better, I've said a lot of dumb and embarrassing and even mean things in a lot of places and I've been banned from places i really liked for it, I think thats why I over-reacted. We'll both be better next year, I'm sure. Happy Holidays to you. EDIT: Also just wanna add that i was wrong before in our chat about sentai ending haha, I think i laid out good evidence, but I like to admit when I'm wrong Quote:
Anyway, I've already been answered, but to be more specific, I'll recall the situation with the Kamen Rider revival in the late 80s. Back then, despite Black's strong start, it all ended after just two shows. Yes, it was a different time and a foregone conclusion, since Toei was competing with itself, making projects for different channels. But they still decided to bet on a more stable franchise.
I guess my thought is that we had something very similar with Super Sentai, right as its ending we got a few really a-typical series, with odd approaches to continuity, and homage. TV was really rapidly changing then, similar to the way it is now moving towards streaming, and some of the instability is due to Japans economy and world politics as well. I have to wonder if this will have a similar outcome, I think the Heisei era of Rider was fantastic and made all the necessary changes to move forward. Lets hope that this break will lead to a patch of weird cool other stuff for a moment, and then a powerful revival. And maybe this means Gavan: Infinity will be as cool as KR Black lol? Fingers crossed! Last edited by Grupletruge; Today at 06:44 AM.. |
