after meeting red and Green ( Blue for us western fans) mentioning how they where once champions i am curious on who is current champion of kanto. i would love to play kanto region as a new protag not red who need to face elite 4 a new current kanto champion and no i do not think it be gold

Well, I don't think it's Gold. By bring canon into it, we can't really say who is the current Champion. Red, Lance, and Gold/Ethan are all champions of the Indigo League, but since we don't have any follow up, we don't know who is the current reigning champion.

Also, Red wasn't the title holder when you beat him.
