I liked seeing Gai in Shougeki Gouraijin. It was like an extension of the same character in some ways.

I don't know if this adds to the discussion but there was a series of novels that were made years later by the main writer of Jetman (Toshiki Inoue) that served as a retelling of the whole story with more or less some similarity to the tv show but covering topics for adults and of course is not for minors, as it includes description of sexual intercourse between Ryu and Rie, Gai and Kaori, Radiguet and Maria. As far as i know only the first book has been translated to english and if you read it its like wow, jaw dropping, well i dont know you guys but for me it was.

Faiz had the same treatment.
There was also an epilogue/spin-off sequel manga where they regroup to save Ryu and Kaori's abducted daughter, and Gai's replacement from America named Jeffrey Kenzaki joined as Green Eagle.
