Personally, I think that after Super Sentai's transition to Project Red, as well as the increasing frequency of non-franchise tokusatsu projects like Wingman and the upcoming Forticus, we need to accept that Riders will become much more standard than they were in Heisei and early Rеiwa. Simply because back then, every hero was turned into a Rider (Hibiki) or added to a Rider movie (the Fourze summer movie, its crossover with Wizard, Kikaider Reboot in Gaim). Now, Toei has decided to explore other avenues. Of course, I doubt Riders will become insect-only again, but I imagine they won't have the same variety as before. At the very least, we definitely won't see another red main Rider anytime soon.

This might be the first time I've seen someone regard Zeztz as an anniversary season.
Like, it's clearly using familiar iconography for the base aesthetic but like... that's all? If that's all it takes to be considered an Anniversary Season then uh, I've got no words. EDIT: To clarify, me skipping Revice and Zeztz was meant to be a seperate statement, seeing only 3 Rider shows in the past 5 years just makes 2 in that time feel like it's been less than 5 years

I'm curious how the focus on myths will differentiate itself from Saber but the possible cheese/puzzle motif might help.

I was really excited about Saber as well based on the theme, but the execution (other than the suits, which were sick) just did nothing for me, it felt like the worst written series at the time. Same with Gotchard, the Alchemy theme was really exciting, I've always been interested in alchemy and have recently been studying it quite a bit. They did finally touch on some cool stuff near the end regarding the themes, but show mostly felt like an all-bread sandwich... I'm still hopeful, but I'll remain guarded, its a little easier because while I'm enjoying Zeztz, Geats and 01 were 2 of my favorite riders, after more than a decade watching toku. Following those shows with Saber and Gotchard respectively was tragic. |

No no, I mean Zi-O, Revice and now supposedly My-th. All those would be 3 in a decade cause Zi-O was 2018

If there's one thing I've learned from the last few years of tokusatsu, it's that every year can be an anniversary if you try hard enough.

Which is a close sound-alike to "mice." For as long as I've been following Sentai and Kamen Rider, they've been weaving some clever (or sometimes "clever") English wordplay alongside the Japanese. We just had a food rider a couple of years ago, so I'm kind of boggling over the possibility they might revisit that well so soon. Then again, these shows often have several sub-themes. Remember when Geats was looking like an animal Rider? (Ugh, I probably should've read the other couple of pages of comments first.) Last edited by Tokumonkey; Today at 02:55 PM.. |
