My thoughts on female Sentai heroes have evolved somewhat over the last year. I agree that the show presents well-rounded ladies more often than not. And I also think the argument that the girls are constantly in need of rescue falls apart because the mega-theme of sentai is the power of teamwork, and the boys are constantly being saved as well.

Even when a show is chock-full of aspirational females, there's always gonna be the episode where one of the girls threatens to give up everything to marry a prince (at best) or some rando dude from childhood (at worst). There's always gonna be the episode where one of the girls is so frivolous she considers becoming a pop star at the expense of her duty. There's always gonna be a moment where the girls get disturbingly excited about shopping, dancing, and/or baking, despite none of those interests fitting their characters' established personalities. And that's just the start of the troubling tropes of the genre.

The constant flow of these "girls are supposed to like these things and act this way" messages are gross to me. And they're especially gross when the characters are otherwise presented as strong, independent women.

Also, maybe let's not judge colors off of crappy scans. The color could be skewed by any number of factors between printing and scanning of the image.

Remember that early leaked photo? That color blue was way closer to the "male" blue. These scans do veer toward the aqua end of the spectrum (albeit, a deep aqua). The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Juuou Sharks shade of blue is much closer to Kyoryu Blue and ToQ Nigou. Who were both male rangers.

I'm almost sure that's just a combination of bad scans and the lighting in the promotional shots. It might be a different shade of light blue than usual, but it definitely still looks lighter than those male rangers to me. I guess we'll see.

The point still stands that the male Blues have gotten lighter shades as well. Yakumo is more traditional, but Nossan and Tokacchi went with some very light, soft tones.

If there is "always" an episode including one of the tropes you mentioned, then give me some examples. Because honestly, I can't think of many (for some plots even any) shows that had such episodes. Heck, we even had the exact opposite of the idol one in Abaranger, where Ranru gave up on being an idol to be an engineer (which is, surprise surprise, a job considered to be masculine) and even had nightmares about having to be an idol again.
Also, character traits don't define interests. What's so bad about girls who like baking/shopping/dancing? As long as they don't say they hate it beforehand, it isn't OOC for them to like it. And like with the idol thing we also have at least one show that did the opposite. Remember when Moune had to calm herself down in Goseiger by doing Ikebana (which is considered extremely girly) and she just freaked out because she hated it. Also, the whole episode was joking on the fact that she isn't a typical girly girl.

There's been one light blue male ranger and one dark blue female ranger, both of which happened decades ago. Anything else has been so subtle it's barely worth mentioning. When the blue Zyuouger even has a dark blue mecha, I don't see why her suit shouldn't match. It's inconsistent and very obviously just comes down to them wanting to make her look "girly".

Kyoryuger lacked a yellow ranger because the producer considered yellow to be a feminine colour and didn't want to have a second female ranger on the team because having two girls on a team that was supposed to represent strength "wouldn't be realistic". If you don't consider that embarrassing and/or offensive, then yeah, we just have very different views on this stuff.

I could speak at length about my issues with a certain episode in ToQGer, but I really don't want to turn this into an argument about sexism when it was simply a matter of wanting more variety in female suits.

He said that once and he got quickly shushed by the rest of the team because it was bs. The action director, Sakamoto then requested Yayoi to become the second female writer to which the writer, Sanjo and ultimately also the producer agreed and they later even added a third female with Yuuko taking over as Cyan.
The statement was embarassing, but the show itself wasn't as it did play out as quite the opposite with some really loveable and cool female characters, both on the hero and villain side. So much for that.

I rewatched Toqger just a few days ago and honestly, I found it to be quite the contrary of sexist. I mean, it would be pretty ironic if it was, considering the author was a woman herself.

Well, from your argumentation against my point, it pretty much turned into that. I said I was fine with the current colors and you said it's not fine because you found it sexist. So we're technically still on topic here, but yeah, as this discussion seems to be going in circles from here on.
