The connection between the sentai who gave Gai his powers was that all three of them were dead (DragonRanger, TimeFire and AbareKiller) and gave them to him while he was on the verge of death. Since all three of them were spared in Power Rangers there's no real reason why those specific three have to be the ones to give Gokai Silver his powers in Super Megaforce.

Except that Tommy Oliver is one of the most influential Rangers in history, in addition to having been confirmed to appear. It would be cool to see Trent and Eric show up, but I'd understand if they didn't.

It'd be awesome to have Trent, Tommy, and Eric show up.
Better than Gokaiger's scene, having just Abarekiller show up out of suit, and have TimeFire and DragonRanger stay in suit the entire time.

Well his zord runs on the powers of those three series, so that's a pretty good reason in itself if they keep that logic.
