Considering someone in this thread has said they're watching the show at the moment, please spoiler your stuff if you're going to go into detail about what happens in the manga/anime/movies whatever. I've taken the liberty of doing it for you this time.
And regardless, even if the circumstances are SLIGHTLY similar that's still not enough to say that the films are "done as close to the manga as possible". Especially when they're the ones that diverge most of all. (Not that I care, the films are my favourite thing out of the franchise. I haven't read the manga but they blew the anime out of the water)

Death Note episode 3
Damn this show makes you think. So much intellectual battle and I love it. Plus, the situation always changes every episode. Holy shit that cop guy was Light's dad. I swear to god this show has so many coincidences just to set this up. But isn't it a bit hypocritical for L to try to kill Kira since Kira is killing murders? Yeah, I know the police think that killing him is the only way to stop this from happening but it still doesn't justify it. IF anything, Kira's death is only gonna cause more violence and murder. I was not much of a fan of the Shinigami hanging around Light until this episode when he gave the supernatural deal to Light. I don't want him to take it but I think that he's gonna take it because he thinks he's gonna get killed in less then that lifespan anyways. I think that he shouldn't because this power is only gonna limit his possible chance of escape, with him getting drawn into killing more and more, plus him being able to write down names of people he doesn't know in front of him only cements him as a murderer only leaving behind more evidence. |

Death Note episode 4
I'm glad Light didn't decide to take the deal for the eyes. Would have made the show really really easy then. More rules. Considering it only makes then rules of the show more fair and the plot has to adhere to those rules, I praise it. But holy shit that was a very specific plan Light came up with just to get the guy to say his name. If I was Light, I'd use my new found power of description of death to create a series of less frequent yet more intricate murders so I could get away with it easier. They'd think that since the pattern of mass heart attacks stopped, the case would be over, maybe even write in the Death Note about how a criminal gets tried and executed. Episode 5 So much shit is happening I'll start putting spoiler tags on the summaries. And this is Light's spiral down into villainy. Killing 12 FBI agents just to spurr L even more is fucking annoying. Plus, those demands of Light when he was following the guy on the train were fucking ridiculous. But I see we have a new subplot with his fiancee following the case now. I find it hilarious that the police force is now down to 5 guys and L, making them extremely easy to stop and toy around with. Episode 6 So.... L's a shut-in? I've been convinced this entire show that Light has been stupid and brash and revealed himself, but at the same time is so smart about all this shit. This episode proved that. The FBI Agent's fiancee being the thing Light was missing in taking everything into account is an example of the terribly long road Light is gonna go down to become god. He's probably gonna kill her next episode and even if he lets her live, either way, he's screwed. Even if he kills her, via heart attack or some other means, is gonna raise suspicion. This is how you do an evil character with a corrupted sense of justice. Not like Micchy where Kickback proclaims his coming around in the last 5 episodes as redempeion for all of the shit he did. No, you can not come out of this shit with blood on your hands and expect no consequences and a magical space fruit god to forgive you. Episode 7 Damn, that was the most intense conversation I've ever seen between two people. I also thought her voice sounded familar and it turns out her American voice actress also voiced Soma Pieres from Gundam 00. So Setsuna just controlled Marie to kill herself lol. Taking an entire episode to kill this character was an awesome to see. But this episode shows the amount of exponential oversights this plan can have. There wasn't that much advancement on L's side but giving Aliases to the cops is not gonna help them considering how close Kira is to them. Light's getting further and further down the well of lies. Episode 8 That was the most intense doing of homework ever. So now they've wire tapped his house and damn this is getting intense. Although I found the mini TV inside the chips to be a bit ridiculous. L s plan is sort of working, but he still is narrowing it down to Light. Episode 9 L revealed himself? I mean it makes sense given the story but L'd better have a backup. I wonder if L is gonna figure out the Shinigami thing. Episode 10 This is getting into crazy mental battle territory. Like being screwed either way while making a decision is just mindfucking to me. Although Light is getting ground on L, getting him to trust him more but at the same time raising his suspicion. I hope L wises up and puts up some guards before he lets Light in. Episode 11 Holy shit there's two Kiras and the second one has the Shinigami eyes? I swear I'm gonna have a hear attack from all the tension of the show lol. But yeah, now this is going to be really really tense as the two Kiras have to kill each other without meeting the other with one at a severe disadvantage. At the beginning where they didn't show Light, I thought they were going to show his involvement at the end, maybe to change up the formula of the episode. Like maybe show him using a laptop and some fancy dancy facial recognition program to give him the names. But damn, I did not see that coming so early. I knew there was a second arc to the show and I thought the other Shinigami were going to come down then. Episode 12 Wow. I was mildly interested in the Shinigami aspect of the show before, but now I'm uber interested in how this realm works. The death note's origin for fake Kira was really powerful and completely changes the show dynamic. And now it makes sense why she took the eyes deal, she had her life span added to by that Shinigami's death. So if that Shinigami had about 1000 years on his life, what's it to her to sacrifice half of that to get the eyes, she's gonna live well past the point of when she's gonna die anyways. But in the opening, Light is reaching out to her like a certain Kiba Yuji ready to accept her. Is he just trying to kill her or is it going to be a legitimate attempt to team up. I'm just wondering if we're gonna get some sort of meta Death note killing where one owner has the instructions for someone's death involve the other owner being forced to write down the name of that person in theirs as like a proxy/safety/ messing with each other of who's really killing who. Alright, Shugo Chara.
Not a whole lot happens here, which makes sense, it's the first episode so it's mostly set up, which is fine. I could have done without the two bits of exposition they throw in. Exposition is one of those tricky things you have to be careful with, because usually it just comes off as lazy. Choosing to tell us things rather than showing them, but it's mostly harmless here, if a bit jarring. Amu's life oddly reminds me of my own time in school, regardless of how brief it was, in that she's utterly confused by her own popularity. The focus of the show seems to be based around personas, and how most people put on different ones in front of other people. In Amu's case it's a bit more extreme, in that she comes off as incredibly cool, but really just want to be seen as an ordinary girl, yet is unable to be to be her true self. Not even her parents seem to know the real her. She just wishes that she could be someone different. So that's where the guardian characters come in, these cute little chibi fairy like creatures that hatch from eggs and can take over Amu, sort of like an Imagin. The one focused on here is Ran, sort of a peppy flirty cheerleader type with the power of flight. The irony of course is that Amu is completely embarrassed by doing something she never would when under Ran's control. We also see her character change, more or less when Amu has enough confidence, she can go into a magical girl form and have complete control, along with the power of a particular guardian. I think this is hinting at her inevitably being comfortable with her personality where her true power lies, not being taken over by something you're not, nor being afraid to be what you truly want or are. But it's too early for me to say. In addition to Amu, there are other characters that can change, several of which are school guardians, which of course go to school with Amu. I don't trust them, they're not given any indication that they're evil but that's why I don't trust them. Something is off about them. They're also widely incompetent, leaving a seemingly powerful item poorly guarded. Anyway, we don't learn much about them, the only one with any real focus is Prince, who I swear I thought was a girl as first. I really don't trust him. I just expect at some point he'll be revealed to be some egomaniac, the kinda guy that tells everyone he's better than them. He's not even shown to be in anyway that, he's rather nice. I just get a feeling. Maybe it's just the name. Our only other character of note is Ikuto, who I don't even think was named here. I like Ikuto, he's clearly a Selina Kyle type character, a thief that flirts with the main character, with not entirely impure intentions for their actions. He doesn't flirt here, but you can kinda tell that's what he's there for. Though I kinda spoiled myself too on that.(See avatar) Again, not much is shown about him, just introduced. I like his little cat guardian though. Last few things of note: I can't help but giggle when I hear Humpty lock. Cool & Spicy makes me think of pop-tarts and Hotwheels. Amu's sister Ami is adorable, and is apparently voiced by Hamtaro, I mean Kurumi arms... Kurumi Tokisaki.... Kurumi Mamiya. |

Yay, Log Horizon is back on! ^_^
Interesting start, but then that ending really threw me for a loop. Definitely seems like a glimpse into the future, but a little confusing glimpse.
