Oh, I didn't mean to imply that anybody shouldn't or couldn't be frustrated that this movie doesn't mesh at all with the events of Zi-O's TV series, just that people bringing up those issues is ironic considering the big theme of the movie was about how continuity isn't important across Heisei Riders as a whole (yet it doesn't try to defend the mess that is Zi-O on it's own, probably because it knows that would be a losing battle).

Just ONCE, **ONCE** I'd like to see Toei make an actual GOOD Rider movie that anyone can enjoy, doesn't cause fanboys to apologize for the absolute garbage shown on screen, and actually makes sense/well written/well paced as opposed to whatever *THIS* travesty of the imagination was. Cool cameos are not a movie made. This is EASILY one the worst toku movies since the Super Hero Taisen abominations. At least Zero-One has a plot that makes sense.....THANKFUL AF ABOUT THAT

"They did. It's called W Forever, OOO Wonderful, Movie War Megamax, Movie War Ultimatum, Gaim's summer movie, Movie War Full Throttle, Surprise Future, Heisei Generations, Heisei Generations Final and Be the One."
ALL these movies with plotholes big enough to drive a semi-truck through.Nice try, though, these ARE the more fun KR movies to me as well. But not without MAJOR holes for the most part. |

I personally really liked this movie and it's finally another Rider summer movie I enjoyed, the last one was Suprise Future.
I tend to enjoy meta stuff and this movie executes that quite well, with it being clear that a lot of it is meat, but also giving a good enough reason for the plot in-universe, something Super Hero Taisen, for example, failed to. The Heisei Rider world is a cobbled-together mess of about 20 worlds that dosen't work together if one sifts through the history of it. Btw, one of my favorite retcons in ZI-O, making each Rider season after Decade technically be another world, but being sucked into one through Sougo. The Quartzers want to fix that mess. I like the message, that even though life sometimes makes no sense, it's still worth something. And it plays well with ZI-O's theme of accepting what you are good at and using that and the abilitys you were "chosen for" to make the world a better place instead of lying to yourself. And about the continuity talk, yeah, heard that this was the last bit of ZI-O continuity after the reset as well, and it fits quite well mostly. (Minus that one reference to Gou in the series) And this movie has a lot of elements from how the original Oma Day was described. It's not too far fetched to assume that Barlckxs was the reason Sougo became Oma Zi-O and now after the events of the series Sougo managed to beat him without turning into Oma ZI-O and ruling a broken world. It's a nice last chapter that leaves the story quite well bookended in my opinion. Especially since Oma Form returned Gou's Rider powers. It most likely restored Rider history fully and returned their powers, but taht is just from that bit, but I'll keep it as my headcanon. |

I ended up writing a more general review of the movie than I expected to, so now that I've seen it a second time, I'm going to call out some random specific things I feel like talking about:
- I always love the bits with huge crowds of extras in Rider movies, and this one doesn't disappoint. Actually, I'm pretty sure they didn't even have to direct most of that scene. Everybody there was probably legitimately that pumped to hear Keisuke Watanabe tell them to rejoice. - The subtle joke in Geiz saying they've changed their outfits enough to blend in with the past and then immediately zipping up the collar he never takes off is amazing. I don't think that thing blends in with any era. - See also: Krim's hologram pondering what to do with a cup of tea. - That fight in the woods with all three Riders together would've been an great spot for Trinity to get an appearance. Could've highlighted the bond between the Riders before Woz betrays everyone, even. This is actually one of my biggest complaints with the movie, believe it or not. They got pretty much all the other major upgrade forms in there somewhere, so why stop there? Fans of the Decade Armor and the Heisaber will be similarly unsatisfied, but I think they're used to that by now anyway. - One thing that becomes readily apparent on a rewatch is that in the first third, a couple important lines get a reaction from Woz, signified by that usual Zi-O ticking clock sound effect, that foreshadow both his turn to villainy and his eventual change of heart. Another nice bit of cohesion between the Nobunaga adventure and the rest of the movie's plot. - It's unfortunately quite short, but I really like the remix of Geiz's theme music that plays when he steals back the Ride Watches. - It's sure nice to see the trend of Grand Zi-O being completely worthless holding up even in the summer movie. - Which isn't too much of an issue for me, because, hideous Ride Watch forehead pimple aside, I like Oma Form's cleanly design more anyway. - During the sequence of all the Riders transforming into their final forms, Den-O Sword Form is punching the buttons in on his phone as though he were about to use Climax Form. Mind you, the whole point of Liner Form was that Ryoutarou used it when the Imagin couldn't possess him, so to begin with, showing anything except Plat Form there is technically inaccurate. Not that any of this matters when that shot is so amazing. - There's a particularly cool touch in the little music video during the credits in that the two bits from the end of Zi-O's opening where all the old logos flash by are used, with all the logos flashing by, rather than just a few per set of episodes like on TV. - Being familiar with Aruto for 20+ episodes now, the very first thing he does in his cameo here being to horribly overshoot his jump and smash headfirst into a wall is definitely very in-character for Zero-One's debut. At least he didn't break his ankle this time.
