They need to scale it down for sure The sonic screwdriver is supposed to be something that the Doctor can casually fit in his pocket yet they made Smith's this elaborate huge thing.
I'd rather it be written out again for a while, but no chance of that I guess.

It's become too iconic a device since the Eccleston era. I doubt it goes anywhere anytime soon. I like the sonic but I detest the giant thing 11 carried around.

When it can be eaten by a shark and come back, we have no chance of getting rid of it. I'd like to see it toned down, though.

I have no problem with the device itself but its the answer to EVERYTHING now. It was written out of the show originally for becoming too much a crutch but the new series takes that to the extreme.

I guess it becoming a magic wand fits with Moffat's weird attempts to make Doctor Who more fantasy than sci-fi. I'm not saying that as a compliment, either.

Eh, it was a problem with Tennant's era just as much as it was Smith's.

During Tennant's era, any problem that the writers wanted to solve without a screwdriver, you knew that the word "deadlocked" was not far behind. It kind of highlights how the writers use the screwdriver for almost everything else.

Do they make figures and promotional material knowing they'll have to change the costume when the real one is revealed? If so that seems like a hell of a lot of work.
Otherwise, that's what we're getting for the next season. Yeah. I was hoping we could get away from the waistcoat, long jacket, shirt and trousers routine... hey at least they could have thrown in an old man sweater. |

It's a regeneration figure in 11's clothes. It'll probably be out before the new series hits and then they'll release 12 in his own costume.
