Sat down to finally read Original Sin in one sitting. I enjoyed it more than reading it month to month but it also showed more of the problems the book has. Frist of the positives. The Art is great Mike Deodato delivers on pretty much every page of every issue. His splash pages are breathtaking and you never loose track of whats going on. He creates great atmosphere and I loved his panel layouts. The dialogues were also very well written for most of the story even if what was actually said wasnt that interesting.
The first four issues (counting the zero issue) of Original Sin are very very good. Giving us great background for the watcher and makes us care about him so it hits us right where it should when we learn of his death. The mistery is unfolding quite nicely without feeling like its strechted out and even the big cast of characters is nicely utilized. Issue three especially uses its characters quite effectively and manages to pack in a great twist at the end. With issue four though the story takes a turn for the worst. Nothings feels likes its really progressing anymore and while issue five for example helps flesh out some things necessary for the story it just feels kinda empty. The giant cast of characters now becomes the downfall of the book since everyone is at the same place you can tell that Jason Aaron had a hard time giving everyone meaningful things to do. The whole mistery that started with issue one now turns into something completely different and I dont know if I like that aspect of the story. It changes a long established character into an obsessed maniac and we are supposed to accept this really big revelation without much time given to let it set in. The final act of Original Sin is just one big action scene with everyone getting beat up far too easy by only one single character and it feels really forced that he can just take care of every single Avenger like it takes him no effort at all. Within the context of the story it kinda makes sense but its still just too out there for me to really get behind. Once the big revelation of who killed the Watcher and why he did it hits I just didnt care anymore. Nothing Original Sin does at the end feels earned in any way shape or form and just makes me question why? Why did this story need to happen? It wasnt "bad" but it wasnt really "good" either. It just feels unnecessary. |

Hmm, interesting viewpoint here. I'm still getting my feet wet in the current MU but I've seen & heard lots of reactions to Original Sin. People are divisive since one side loves the surprise & its reveal/retcon while others, like you, believe this to be taking away from the cast. Do you think you would've enjoyed it more if the established character had moments of this obsessive mentality & behavior shown prior to?

It would have been something that I had liked to see.
Yes the character we get to see is not so different from how he usually acts but him being so completely obsessive with this one last job that he would even kill the Watcher to get what he wants is a bit too much for me. We get hints that he hated the Watcher beforehand and the way how the Watcher operates but it was still not enough for me to really get investet in the characters actions. The revelation felt extremely rushed which is ironic since alot of the book feels like its stretched out too long. A problem this book has by the halfway mark is that the Watcher is not the central part of the mystery anymore. He becomes more of a plot device and the mystery revolves now around someone completely different and by issue 6 you can tell who really killed the Watcher but thes still drag it out for two issues like its still the main focus of the story. And on top of that is just that I dont get why this story needed to exist in the first place. No character that was involved really profits from this storyline. Yeah The Orb maybe does but with characters like Thor you could have gotten him to this point without having Original Sin happening. There were answers we needed for the end to fel statisfying like why Bucky Barnes decides to become the new Man on the Wall or why Nick Fury is the new Watcher. Yeah the last part is supposed to be taken ironic that the character that was so obsessed with stopping threats from happening that he would kill a being like the Watcher is now forced to spent his eternity being chained to the moon only able to observe but not to intervene. Yet again I´m asking why did this need to happen. Why with this character? It just feels completely unnecessary. Last edited by ElConvoy; 12-23-2014 at 10:55 AM.. |

I picked up Ms. Marvel 1 and 2 I like them, and I can relate to some of the issues presented in this comic so far. I can say, as a Muslim, that a lot of the stuff here is pretty accurate, so accurate it almost hurts.
![]() As for Kamala. I like her so far. She's a cool character, and I can relate to her quite a bit. I find it kinda funny that she writes Avengers fanfics, considering that in there the Avengers are actual people. I hope we get an explanation as to how she got her powers, because so far it seems like they're pulling a Ghost Rider and going for a "We'll explain it later" type of a thing. One part I particularly liked in issue 2 was this little bit: ![]() It's a really good quote for a superhero. The art is pretty good, but could be better. It doesn't particularly catch the eye quite the same way All New Ghost Rider does. Quote:
![]() EDIT: So, I was reading through the Fantastic Four stuff, and I think that idea for Human Torch actually sounds super cool! I'm just imagining him burning white and taking down like, Thanos or something,

Listened a bit to it but meh not interested. Like the guy said it could very well just have been a first draft and its unlikely at the moment that the movie is even going to happen.

Terrigen Mists were released and since she had the right ser of genes her powers awakened. In short, she's an inhuman. |
