Ugh. I don't know if it's just the BBC One version, but the audio mix is really screwy this episode. The SFX are deafening compared to the relatively quiet voices.

I don't think that'll go down as one of the all-time great Dalek stories, but that was certainly one of the better modern ones. Dalek is still miles ahead but this my just edge out my next favourite (Parting of the Ways).
It was nice to have a Dalek story where there was no grand plot for them other than "go in and kill things", and the whole "there is no such thing as a good Dalek" ending was handled especially well. Particularly with how it brought the Doctor into it. That "comrade Dalek" line didn't sit with me well for varying reasons, much like how it didn't when I read the script a month or so ago. The Doctor continues to be unsettlingly short with people, which makes for a really nice change of pace at the moment. His relationship with Clara has also vastly improved, with this episode again providing some really great moments. Not sure what I make of Mr Pink just yet though. His backstory is an overused one in television, but while its still relevant in today's society I guess it deserves its place. Guess I'll just have to see how it pans out. So yeah, approval from me ![]()

I liked it. We got to see some of that "darker" Doctor that we were promised and the whole romp through the Dalek was fun, even if I kept thinking about The Invisible Enemy (this episode looked better, but loses points for having less Leela). Between that and last week's references to The Girl in the Fireplace, I wonder if we'll be getting any more loose callbacks to older episodes.
Interesting debut for Danny Pink; I wonder if there's anything in the similar color-themed last name and former profession with the guest star this week. Could be just a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder if he's in some way a time-displaced deserter. I don't think he's the Master. Not unless something really effed up happened to him. Speaking of possible effed up Masters: did not expect this week's Missy scene. I'm really, really curious to see what her deal is. In any case, Capaldi continues to impress, although I have a little trouble understanding him when he talks really fast. |

Very much enjoyed this Dalek episode, and definitely the best one of Moffat's run, and might even be my favourite of the New Series.

Okay, this episode was by far the best one I have seen in a long time. It actually gave me a vibe from the Eccleston episode. I really enjoyed it and I thought Clara was actually good in this episode. I hope the rest of the season goes like this.

Well that was good. It still wasn't as good as Dalek (imo), but it was dark and enjoyable. The ending was good as well, even if we have seen good daleks before (kind of in Evil of the Daleks, Caan in Journey's End). The Daleks actually seemed threatening again, with no other goal than kill them all, and Danny seems like a good character. Even if Moffat can't write an unadorkable male companion to save his life. The Doctor was back to his usual, dark form, especially in his hatred of the Daleks, and Clara, while having little to do (again), she continues make me like her slightly more, maybe because she contrasts with the new Doctor so much. I'd give this 7.5/10.
So, next week- robots! Also, are those classic Daleks 3.5 or 5 inch? Because I may start collecting 3.5" if those are in it. |

I honestly, truly, felt horrible when Rusty found the Doctor's hatred and started murdering Daleks. But they also kind of gave away what happened in their promo for the new series. "Divinity, Beauty.. HAAATRED!" Was in that electric promo where we couldn't figure out if it was a Dalek or Davros. I also felt horrible when he turned Journey away there at the end.
I very much though love this Doctor. "Yes, she's my carer. She cares so I don't have to." That statement, right there, that bit of sass sums up exactly what I was hoping 13 would be. "Is Ross in here?!" "I think he might be in the top layer if you want to say a few words." Now to figure out what in the name of holy hell Missy is. She saved the Clockwork from London and brought it to 'Heaven', and then saved the Soldier who's name I forget. I still think she's either The Master reborn or some sort of sadistic Tardis. Still waiting patiently for my Sherlock/Doctor Who episode. Just find some way to add Supernatural. SUPERWHOLOCKIANS UNITE!

3.5". Seems 5" is pretty much dead save for a few special releases every year.
