Well, this one was... meh. The first half, with the horror-y stuff, I really liked. The spiders were a fairly scary enemy, with what's-his-name's death seeming like aliens.

But then we had the ending. I thought it would be like children of Earth, with the humans doing the wrong thing and the Doctor turning his back. That would have been an ending, especially one that changed the status quo. But instead we get Clara's break down. I'd rather have Handles than this. It's not that I see problems with the Doctor and his companion disagreeing, and I don't know why I didn't lie it, but I still feel nothing for Clara Seriously, I Felt more for Handles the robot head than Clara. Hmmm... she's a control freak yet she doesn't lke being left on her own...

Anyway, next week, Mummies and Frank Skinner!

The best episode of the series so far. It had Silence in the Library, it had The Beast Below, it had Clara breaking type. An episode so good I actually went outside, saw the moon, and said "Good Egg".

In all seriousness though, I'm a bit mixed on how I feel about it. To start the addition of Courtney was completely unnecessary, and I hope that's her pretty much over and done with. Kids do not work in the TARDIS and they aren't needed to get kids to enjoy it either, so I don't know why they keep trying to shoehorn it in.

The first half of the episode was decent Who horror, but it was all a bit too by the books to be truly scary. You could pretty much tick off all the tropes as you went along.

The second half was a lot better, but I'm really beginning to lose steam with the whole "The Doctor isn't just dark, he's an asshole" thing. I get that it's probably building up to something and I found his assessment of the whole situation agreeable, but the way he went about it was just downright horrible. I'm really beginning to feel for Clara now because a moment doesn't seem to go by where he isn't breaking her down in some way, and this just took it to new lengths.

That said, I am looking forward to see how Capaldi goes in a non-Clara ep. Should be interesting.

I think I've figured out why I didn't like this episode, after reading your guy's reactions and some guys on fanfic.net. This new Doctor and Clara, for all their good interactions, don't work well together, or something like that. He needs someone to listen to him, and Clara needs someone to keep out of her emotional side. Neither are good at that. This new Doctor needs to do something nice for her, and Clara needs to... I don't know, maybe stop being so emotional. I don't hate either of them- I just hate this episode's ending, and that's it.

Also, no Clara this episode. The previews for it mention Clara, don't they?

I liked the ending and I think Clara gave the Doctor a well deserved talking to. In my opinion, Clara is thus far is one of the most assertive companions of the New Series, and is something the Doctor needs a bit more of. In that respect she feels a lot like Martha, someone who calls the Doctor out. The moment that stood out the most from this episode was when Clara left the TARDIS, leaving the Doctor stunned, unable to come up with a retort like he always has.

As for the emotional aspect, I feel that the Doctor has done worse for companions in the New Series. Clara is at least more reasonable than say, Amy, and so far, while they don't get along well with each other, it makes for a good watch. Further, a disagreeable Doctor brings out way more in Clara and her personality than Matt Smith's Doctor did, because with Smith they usually got along.

Capaldi's Doctor is extremely interesting. He's a mighty big jerk, the kind of character I'd usually steer far away from, but I do find him very entertaining to watch. He's a likable jerk, and while I wouldn't say he's my favourite Doctor, I do enjoy his series so far. Hopefully he'll find his heroic footing once again, that someone will show him that emphatic side he once had.
