Probably not. The name seems like a coincidence considering the Beast Wars of Star Wars didn't involve two factions being stranded on an unknown location and fought over resources to see who escapes first. But hey, who knows. Perhaps someone over at Hasbro at the time could've been aware and felt like the name worked for their next Transformers lineup and their legal team probably looked into it.

The kicker in the deal is the fact that both toy lines were being managed by Kenner when they were bought out by Hasbro and being used as a "boy's toys" subsidiary in the mid-to-late '90s.
