It is a sports company, after all.
Hell, considering it's penchant for plastering it's logo on everything, it just might be Nike ![]()

Don't you mean "nikke-nikke"?
![]() I watched these episodes like a month ago. The early episodes just make me miss RJ. Here's a copy and paste from the watching thread of these episodes: Quote:

Gekiranger 2 and 3. I don't dislike Jan, but he gets annoying fast. He acts like a 2 year old most of the time. I;ll give them credit for giving him the back story to explain these actions, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
The weakest part of the show is the the same problem Jungle Fury had: that ****ing fly that won't shut the hell up during the awesome mecha battle. He's like the anti-Doggie. Instead of being one of the most awesome characters in both properties, he's one of the worst characters in both. Speaking of mecha battles, I'm aware I'm in the minority here, but I love Geki/JF's Megazord designs and battles. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Megazord designs are overly simple, I don't care because the guy in the suit can MOVE. I am so sick of Megazords that move like bricks on rollerskates. GekiTouja needs more love. Nothing else to really comment on yet. I'm sure I'll have more to say once I complete the venom dudes' arc. I remember enjoying that in JF, so I'm sure it will be good here too. Last edited by Blade Raider; 02-13-2013 at 11:13 PM.. |

I'm a bit ahead of episode 3, but so far I'm mostly liking Gekiranger. I wish I had a better sense of Ran and Retsu, but I'm finding Jan fun. Dude's hella on crack, but he's fun. The only part of the show I really don't like is the cat dude. It's the creepy long arms with the tiny hands. I assume they were trying to go the Doggie route again, but he that suit was much, much better.
Also, Mele is hot. |

It's been a while since I've seen the series, so I think I'll follow along with this and go nuts about this show all over again.

Ah Gekiranger, how nostalgic. Takes me back to collegic days. Having watched the entire series before, I notice a few things that allude to future elements of the series like the animals behind Miki as she talked about Geki Jyuken and SCRTC, the voices of the Kenma when Rio spoke to them, and Rio's dream before Mele tries to attack him. The fight choreography is still as gorgeous and fluid as I remember it. Though I'm wondering if Koichi Sakamoto worked on this show. As I have been exposed to his filming style quite a bit in these past few years, I notice Gekiranger has a few of his hallmarks.
These eposdes show how criminal it was that Gokaiger didn't use the Gekiranger theme for its spotlight episode. With or without the lyrics, that is a powerful and awesome theme to kick ass to. One thing I liked about this show is that the MOTW are promoted version of the grunts, and then create their own individual identity by transforming. It's a neat and interesting touch. Another thing great about this series is the giant battles. GekiTouja's design allows it very fluid movements and lets you believe it's a giant super robot instead of a guy in a suit. Also Bae's commentary is fun. And Mele is hot as always ![]() Really looking forward to next week because we'll be seeing episode 4. That episode really sets the tone for the series. |

Gekiranger's countless homages and parodies towards Kung Fu flicks are also what makes the show fun to watch. The voice actors of the 7 masters for instance, are all people who voice famous Kung Fu actors regularly (i.e. Ikeda Shuichi who voices Bat Li is a regular pick for voice-overs of Jet Li in Japan). Even the Godokuken fighters are such a great homage to the Five Venoms movie by the Shaw Brothers. And the mecha battles being presented in the form of a match thanks to Bae is also what made the mecha battles fun.

What makes it so distinct from Dairanger is that it takes a more grounded and practical approach to the martial arts concept. For example, they have a sportswear brand as a front and base of operations, while Dairanger suits hinted at traditional and mystical aspects of martial arts, Gekiranger took a modern approach taking cues from Bruce Lee's uniform from Game of Life and Death for the suits (excluding Violet and Chopper).

I need to watch episodes 2 and 3 at some point tomorrow.
