I couldn't get passed the second episode honestly.
It was just too..I dunno, childish for me I guess, as much as I hate to use the term. The dancing was painful. The sound and effects and music were atrocious. I just couldn't take any more of it. It sucks to because I REALLY wanted to like the series going into it. It would have been my first Sentai (aside from Akibaranger), I liked the dinosaur theme, I like some of the designs, and it had some cool concepts, such as the villains. But it is just aimed way too much at the younger demographic than I can take. Even Fourze managed to work for an older audience, and it had some really great, dramatic episodes. Not sure how the recent episodes have been, if anything has changed, but I really really doubt it. May check in again after the halfway point. To those of you that enjoy the series, power to you and I hope it continues to entertain you. And I would quite love to hear if and when the series does change its tone a bit, maybe it can draw me in again as well.

It's...Adequate. To put it.
In terms of character, it's great. I like that, while common character archetypes, they're not cliched. The Kyoryugers are all interesting to watch and their comedy plays off each other really well. They each have room to grow, but it does seem like they're doing so. The designs are hit or miss. The costumes have grown on me, but Kyoryujin still has not, with Western being the only one I like. The Deboss, design wise, are all over the place. I can't stand Canderilla's design, while the rest just vary from decent to meh. The action is alright. Flashy and fast paced, but it seems to lack impact. The fight scenes really just seem to be them flailing around until they use the batteries to finally get some kills. It is still fun and energetic and enjoyable to watch, though. However, the biggest flaw is pacing. As in, this show has no idea how it works. What should be delicate character moments get 4 minutes worth of screen time, while the monster parading around gets 6. Issues get resolved far too quickly for anyone to believe there was ever a real problem, and the characters connect seemingly off screen, going from antagonistic to aloof to "One of the gang" over the time span of one episode (IAN). It takes story arcs that could easily fill up two or three episodes (Nossan's family, Ian and Souji's alternate ideals, etc) and shoves them into one episode, along with another issue of the day. Coupled with the villains antics and screen time, these issues just get quietly resolved with hardly any fanfare. In all, Kyoryuger is a fine series, but it moves too quickly for it's own good. I'm afraid, with how quickly it's bringing up and resolving stories, that it's going to meander during the middle like Shinkenger or OOO. And it keeps putting Canderilla on screen. That's the biggest crime it's committing. |

I absolutely love Kyoryuger and can't get enough of it. The action scenes are fantastic and make me excited for each new episode every week.
The show also has some of the most eye-catching designs in Super Sentai. The villains and MOTWs are always great to watch and the suits, mecha, EVERYTHING just look awesome on-screen. The characters are also pretty great. I don't find a single one particularly boring, which is probably a Sentai first. I have heard some people are concerned about the pace, and while I don't feel it, I do hope they don't descend into filler later on. I'll just trust that Riku Sanjo delivers another brilliant series. Fourze may be childish, but by virtue of being Kamen Rider, it also has a very developed world and characters. Super Sentai usually dispenses with that (yes, Matrixbeast, I know there are some exceptions) and as such sometimes it may threaten the suspension of disbelief when the whole show feels like a Saturday morning cartoon. I feel it's simply just how Super Sentai does things nowadays.

My thoughts on the show in tl;dr form?
It has potential. Lots of it actually, however it being a show that is for kids, and specifically meant for kids... It is possibly only going to stay there, and not have any form of dark twist, and thus remain at a constant Quo. Though, I could be wrong as I do see potential.

While I do love when Sentai takes itself seriously, I can enjoy the funny, simplistic ones (Hell, Kakuranger is probably 2nd or 3rd for me).
The problem with Kyoryu is that, outside of Ian's brief background snippet in his episode, every story that has been brought up was resolved in the same episode. Unless the writer has something big planned, I'm afraid they're just going too quickly. (Also, why don't posts in this subforum appear in the "New posts" box?)

I for one have enjoyed the absolute hell out of the series. The ranges are fun and energetic, they really come alive on screen as civilians. And in costume their voices match perfectly to the suit actor mannerisms. The suit designs are top notch as well, I always love the semi armored look so it's nice to see that carry over from Beet and Stag Buster a bit. Also nice to see the dynamic camera angles for mecha battles carry over from Go-Busters. The villains, unlike for most people, really work for me. In preliminary scans I thought I'd hate them based on appearance but I actually really really like them. Aigaron is the most interesting with his tie to Ians' backstory. Candelera and Luckyuro are fun as well, I like that even though their emotion is looked down upon by other Debos they're the ones responsible for growing large monsters. My parents used to say when I was young that if they sprinkled water on me I'd grow like a little tree. So seeing a water make monsters grow strikes and odd familiar chord with me. And after the recent revelation via magazine scans that Dogold is actually a brainwashed Kyoryu Gold I think I'm gonna dig what little more we'll see of him. I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out yet or noticed but you do realize that the Debos generals are based on the Wizard of Oz right? Aigaron is tin man, Dogold is Lion, Luckyuro is scarecrow, and Candelera is Dorothy. The Wizard is in there somewhere but I don't know exactly who it is. The mecha battles and designs are superb, the rangers are great, I find the villains interesting, and I love the overall pacing. Considering I don't as care much for Riku Sanjo's previous work as much as other fans I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I love this show!
