I don't think going back to a more standard Sentai is what makes it kind of middling, it's doesn't really stand next to the best of those. I think the most interesting aspect is the spy/espionage stuff and while arguably it's more about that than cars even, I still wish it'd lean into it more.

Still, I like it enough and watched it long enough that I might as well stick with it and see where it goes. I just hope Gozyuger kick things up a notch once more.

Eh, it's pretty much familiar comfort food compared to the fine dining that was King-Ohger, which is why I think it works for me. It treads familiar grounds and takes somewhat of a back-to-basics approach to reset the gears so that the next one may shine. That said, it's got one of the most hype battle music ever.

Pretty much. It's futile to try comparing Boonboomger to the 3 shows that preceded it, but being considered a more conventional Sentai, we can totally compare it to Kiramager, which I personally think is just better at virtually everything it does. I wonder if Toei are afraid to invest too much in agents and espionage themes, due to Gobusters becoming a financial failure.
