The gamecube was what started the "Nintendo is for BAB!EZ" rut they're in now*thanks to the purple cube though the Wii is what cemented it* and their idiotic decision to use those mini disk things pretty much killed what little 3rd party support they had left that hadn't already jumped ship over the N64 using cartridges.

By 2018, the PS4 and XO will be five years old. Consoles tend to have a new system out by 4-7 years later after the last one. I think the PS5 could be out by 2018 or 2019. I think 2019 might make more sense since Sony consoles have a 6-7 life cycle.

I don't know why the PS3 and 360 where on the market for so long? I remember major titles stop coming out on the PS2 by 2008. I think the PS3 and 360 are pretty much done anyways. More developers are starting to move on current systems like they always do a year or two after the next gen systems are out.

The PS3 was 7 years on the market before the PS4 came out and the 360 8.

PS4 and Xbox One will have similiar lifecycles if not longer since there isnt much to innovate from here on. We dont have those giant leaps in technology anymore where you need to pump out a system every five years.

Personally I'm not expecting new consoles from those two till 2020-2021 at the earliest.

I also won't want the current gen systems to last that long on the market or otherwise the next gen systems will look out of date by the time when they are released. Consoles since the PS2 have been known to fall behind PC's by two-three years when it comes to graphics.

PCs will always look better than the consoles do nowadays since Consoles are made to last a several lifespan. PCs can always be upgraded.

Five years is too soon nowadays for new consoles though, so I hope we don't see them until 2019. It also doesn't help that we are nearly done with the second year of next gen console and nothing truly next gen has been released.
