People complain that Jungle Fury is 'just going through the motions' but not only are the characters deep, their relationships realistic and seen through to the end there is a LOT of new footage.

Thanks to the Masters and the Spirit Rangers there are brand new fight sequences which suggests an extra amount of effort and money went into this series and it really shows.

It's mature, fun and it isn't so episodic that nothing has consequence or purpose.

Finally hit the Shadowborg arc in Beetleborgs. Was totally worth sitting through the 25 episodes prior to this.

These are what I remember fondly about his show. A really badass villain who completely wipes the floor with the villains, and a plot that isn't completely focused on "Hillhurst Monsters do ...."

And with that I have finished the season 1 part 1 dvd. Onto part 2!

Okay I will admit that Jungle Fury kinda let me down when it came to RJ's ranger storyline.

Firstly...why did he just randomly decide to go and morph and fight with the Rangers? He had this morpher the whole time and just sat on his ass? Yeah I know sentai limitations but come on!

Secondly, why match him up with a sentai fighter who has such a distinctive fighting style? Have we ever seen RJ fight with his elbows and knees in his unmorphed fights? Not that I can remember.

I know these problems are inherent but you think they'd put more effort in considering the person he is matched with has such a unique style that really stands out.

The thing about PR mentors is most of them are assholes deep down. They're always keeping one or two secrets until they need to pull a plot device and/or new toy out of their ass.

It wasn't even like a new Ranger was needed, they didn't really establish very well that this new monster was all that powerful, especially now they have Jungle Master Mode...which they didn't use for some reason.

So MMPR season 3 was pretty great. I was lukewarm on the first season and I thought, the second one went from pretty okay to good, but season 3 was great! I never felt a desire to skip any episodes unlike the past two seasons. I feel like the production crew, finally got the perfect groove for what they were doing with the series for this season.

Alien Rangers, though...it's hit or miss. That part of the season was just bizarre.

Buncha notes and stuff:

You can actually track the progress of how good the show's getting when, Billy slowly starts to act less and less like a super stereotypical nerd, I think.

The humor was on point this season. I dunno, all the goofy jokes were really funny and I liked the blooper reels they put at the end of the episode.

Speaking of humor, I really liked Rito. He's gotta be up there for my favorite henchman in MMPR. Zedd and Rita's family life is also pretty hilarious. Bulk and Skull are always great, not much to say there. ...Except when they're kids.

The acting generally improved a LOT. Especially Rocky. He was kinda bland at first, but he soon grew to be one of my favorite rangers. Almost all of his spotlight episodes are amazing. And even though it wasn't in season 3, Rocky Just Wants to have Fun is in the running for my favorite episode ever. It's really dumb, though!

The fights were great this season. They tended to do this thing where they pan around and show everyone fighting a lot and it really worked well.

Why does Ninjor have a Dudley Do-Right voice. Or more precisely, why can't Robo Knight have a Dudley Do-Right voice so he can be as awesome as Ninjor?

I'm not even sure why the rangers need their ranger forms, when their ninja forms can seemingly instantaneously teleport anywhere, make multiple copies of themselves, grow to a giant size, and mesmerize the Tenga's into doing a dance that knocks themselves out.

One sorta bad point I will mention is that the monsters have a tendency to turn most of the rangers into things so that the remaining rangers could save the day. At some point they've been multicolored footballs, chemicals, bricks...There are more but I forget them.

I...liked the Alien Rangers a lot more than I expected to. They're these bizarre awkward fish people, but as soon as they turned into rangers, they become the cocky goofballs who just showboat and screw around with the villains before they defeat them. At least in the American footage.

The Alien Ranger's archenemy Hydrohog is awful though. Why is their arch-nemesis a fat smurf?

Anyway, started a few episodes of Zeo. I like it, it looks like it's continuing the tone of season 3 of MMPR. I wasn't really fond of the first two episodes though. They seemed awkwardly paced.

So I'm almost done with Jungle Fury now, I will admit that the villains were a little shitty because EVERYONE was a general so no one was able to stand out, it didn't help that pretty much none of them got a satisfying send off. Also the voice acting for most of the villains was awful.

The show also lost its way somewhat with plotting in the final third, it didn't quite fall apart in such a spectacularly awful fashion like Dino Thunder but I was kinda annoyed by how RJ and that other guy who has had so little unmorphed screen time I don't even remember his name just kinda become Rangers...just because and then from that point every character is getting new attacks, new powers, new forms and rather than a plot it's just basically fifteen episodes of transformation sequences and super moves.

If the fight scenes weren't so spectacular and the Spirit Rangers so awesome, I would have probably been harsher on Jungle Fury but even with all those problems I listed I really do think Jungle Fury is up there with my favourite seasons.

The fight sequences are incredible, there is heaps of new and very impressive fight footage, the core characters are all fully realised and strong and I did like that for the most part characters are lead by individual motivations rather than vague blanket plots.

Still inching my way through Time Force.
I'm not past 10 episodes, but this series is still pretty good, even if there is some hokey acting at times.
I'm just curious as to how this series turned out so well...
