Oh yeah, but it still kinda came from nowhere and really didn't add a whole lot when it was finally revealed, either. SPD was just a giant mess.

Eh, that's fair enough. I still felt it's explanation was better than "Magic space rocks" though.

Dairanger 9. The deciding episode! And it's Daigo focused one!
I laughed so hard at the unintentional nastiness. Lin suggests trying to the mirror on herself, as it only takes young and beautiful women, to which the team reply with 'don't be so stupid'. I know both are joking, but come on guys, have some tact. Although she totally looks like a dude. Then again, the general reactions from the team, when they learn who is behind all this, only highlights how weak they are as a team. Even Daigo was a bit of a dick this episode, which really seemed out of character with how he has been presented so far. This show is so camp, which at times is fun, but at others distracting. The stories presented are epic, but 'Master Mirror Makeup' who uses a mirror with a tongue to convert vain people into energy? Wut? And Kujaku, the Peacock Buddha? All I could think of was ![]() Master Mirror was years ahead of his time though, what would he do today, where men seem to wear more makeup and spend longer on their hair and chasing fashion than women do? He'd probably implode in on himself. The fights are still great though, I love the focus on the individual, as well as the team, giving them each their own unique power and fighting style. There is still way too much focus on Red, as there always is, but the rest of the team don't feel quite as much like spare parts in other series but the focus on them never feels quite as forced either. Plus, although extremely low budget, low possibly some of the lowest I've seen from sentai, I like how that doesn't stop it from having ambition. The amount of chaos Gorma cause on an episode to episode basis is absolute craziness, I'm surprised there is anything left of the people and the city the Dairanger's inhabit. Do I feel better about Dairanger than I did before, now? Do I want to keep watching? Honestly, yeah. When I watched it the first time around, none of this footage was used for Power Rangers (well minus the mech stuff) so I had no expectations whatsoever and all I had to go on was people claiming this was one of the greatest sentais ever made. What I got was this rushed, garbled, confused mess of awesome suits and stunning action sequences. And although it hasn't quite shaken itself free from that opinion, pushing past those first few very rough episodes, the show really starts to open up and gather more focus, suggesting that what is to come is gonna be epic, huge and high camp and I'm fucking excited as hell. And since I've just watched a fifth of the show already.... And if he could rewrite peoples DNA to give them powers, why does he even need to make them Power Rangers?

Actually, it is explained in the next episode how Kujaku was trapped in the mirror.
I love the scene where the guy starts looking at himself in the mirror and is eaten only to be spat out with the monster yelling at him. |

Dairanger 10. It's nice to have some more backstory, but I would like someone to explain why the Dairanger's themselves are exclusive to the present, but everyone else was there 6,000 years ago. Why is everyone able to live so long? If they had access to the Dairanger powers, why not use them in the past?
Still, it's cool to have some badass women, after watching so much Kamen Rider I started to forget women existed. I love Gara's weird sword thing. And their rematch really was very enjoyable, the special effects aren't great, but the ideas are. Everyone just has such insane powers, and it's really like TTGL in the way it's so balls to the wall with everything. People are firing energy blasts, using telekinesis, breathing fire, turning into spirit animals and that's like a minute of screen time. Although, the episode kinda ruined that, with how Daigo is just obsessed with her from the word go, for no reason at all. And when she turns round and almost kills him with a couple of burning daggers, he only falls harder. So all the Dairanger's got an upgrade on their rods now? I like how Daigo got a proper introduction for his, and everyone else gets them just because. It was also kinda weird that 'Lion Style' includes a move of complete calm, I mean the scene is kinda cool, but I wouldn't have expected that from a Lion, even if it isn't mean literally. I think I spoke too soon with how this show handles the Rangers, Zaku has had no focus at all. Lin found out just how important she was, before she vanished into the background, Ryou has had focus on principle of him being red and Shouji got one arc dedicated to him but seems to have nothing wider going on so he too vanished into the background, bar a few aggressive outbursts now and then. Why was Cherry Blossom even here though? He made like one pointless unmorphed fight happen, and then for the rest of the episode stood in the background being a dick.

Dairanger 11. After pretty much solid story focus from the start, I thought it was about time for some throwaway filler crap. So this week Shouji got the hots for some chick, or some shit, I don't know.
This weeks villain was another creepy oddbally over acting weirdo, who broke the fourth wall! Weird how some of these guys have human forms, while a lot of them don't. His monster form looked fucking cheap as hell. Also, the fuck is gauss? And why wouldn't he recognise the Dairanger's? For a show so incredibly goofy, the Rangers sure seem to be on the left foot...like all the time.

Dairanger 12. I would complain it's more inane filler, I mean tofu hermit what the fuck? but it's actually centred around Kazu who has done fuck all in this show yet, so it's about time he got to do something.
I do like the little touches, in this show, like the fact that they bothered to give each Dairanger a unique martial art, so they make sure they use it unmorphed fighting just as much as morphed. Helps keep the illusion that it is actually them in the suit, even when you know it isn't. And Drunken Fist is just a really fun to watch martial art. How the fuck does the timeline of this episode even work? They showed scenes mixed together of Daigo and Shouji sobering and Kazu and the drinking contest, so how could the sober Daigo and Shouji have rigged the drinking contest? And why was the 'water', orange? Getting drunk, for kids!
