OK, I have a similar problem to this original poster. I will be searching for something new to watch soon and I don't know what to watch. Here's the basics:
What I've seen: Shinkenger Gekiranger Gokaiger Dairanger Boukenger Jetman (35+ episodes) Dekaranger (30+ episodes) I'll probably finish Jetman and Dekaranger later this month, and I'm watching Zyuohger episodes as they come out. I have seen between 1 and 4 episodes of every other Super Sentai series from Bioman to the present. Please, recommend me some stuff. Preferably a series that has fansubs up to at least episode 30. At this point, it might be fun for you to pick a decade and watch all the shows from beginning to end, to chart the show's development over time. I've been doing that for the last year or so. I chose the 90s and blasted from Jetman up to Gingaman, where I am now. It's been a really interesting (and OCD satisfying) experience because I get to see the good with the bad. |

Dang, the rate at which you're watching these shows is staggering!

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone! I only asked because I didn't have a great grasp of what the community thinks are the best shows, and watching the first episodes of a bunch of them is too small a glimpse. I'll take all this into consideration when I'm ready to start a new one (probably in a few weeks).

If you like a slightly darker and more serious installment of the franchise, I could definitely recommend Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. It is one of my favorites, if not my favorite sentai series of them all. Here is my sort-of review I made of the series in a thread comparable to this one.

I'm watching them hella-fast because I have an addictive personality that jumps HARD into whatever my latest obsession is. I might get bored of Super Sentai in a few months and stop watching older series when I've had enough, so I'd in general prefer to just watch ones from recommendations instead of going through all of them. That won't happen anytime soon, though. I'm quite certain I won't get through *all* of them. Right now I'm pretty sure I'll buy the Shout! release of Kakuranger and then get into another 2000s series.

Let's see, I've finished:
Kakuranger, Gingaman, Shinkenger, Goseiger, Gokaiger, Go-Busters, Kyoryuger, ToQger and Ninninger In the middle of watching: Zyuranger, Dairanger, Ohranger, GoGoV, Abaranger, Boukenger and Gekiranger And movies wise... well, I've seen 95% of them... well, everything that's available... literally just downloaded all I could, and watched them in a 2 weekend sitting. So looking at what you've seen, I can't recommend Kakuranger and Abaranger enough. I hit Aba hard... very hard... I'm at episode 30 now and that's just been over the last week to week and a half. If I like it, then I'll do the same thing, blow right through it. I've stopped and started Boukenger and Gekiranger so many times, but I vow to get through them after Aba... then backtrack. Probably should just throw Go-Onger in there to not have a gap. |

I recommend you watch these: Kakuranger - Second favorite series after Jetman. Starts out as a satire of Japanese culture in the 90s before becoming a badass martial arts story. Carranger - Even more comedic than Kakuranger. Sometimes the humor works, sometimes it doesn't. But it contains at least one of my all-time favorite Sentai episodes, and I think you've seen enough Sentai by this point to get most of the parody elements it employs. Gingaman - The pitch for this show is basically: what if Sentai was Final Fantasy? I'm still in the process of watching it, but it's already gunning for a top spot in my all-time favorites list. Kyoryuger - You know how everyone complains that Daigo gets all the focus? They're right. But it's still a very good Sentai. (Except for Ovirapoo Zyudenchi, which, UGGGGGH) Go-Busters - The people who claim this is a huge departure from the Sentai norm haven't watched any 80s shows. I've heard all the arguments against this show, and I don't agree with any of them. Go-Bus is totally solid Sentai. I recommend you avoid these: Magiranger - Despite some excellent design work, this is far and away the worst Sentai I've ever seen. Ninninger - Not the worst, but your time is better spent elsewhere. Maskman - Unless you want to watch the most generic Sentai of all time, then by all means... Megaranger - I'm gonna get a lot of blow back for this, but I stand by it 100%. Are there good episodes? Sure. But you've seen enough Sentai now that Megaranger will probably feel almost as generic as Maskman. I say pass. To gauge my tastes against your own, here's my ranking of all the Sentai shows I've seen (which, aside from the top 5, varies every day and may not be that helpful... lol): 01. Jetman 02. Kakuranger 03. Gokaiger 04. Dairanger (based on how things are going, Gingaman will probably slot in here) 05. Shinkenger 06. Ohranger 07. Carranger 08 (tie). Kyoryuger 08 (tie). ToQger 10. Go-Buster 11. Goseiger 12. Megaranger 13. Ninninger 14. Maskman 15. Magiranger You'll notice I rank ToQger and Ohranger higher than some of the other shows I recommended -- that's because I don't think these series will appeal to everyone. I'm with you on Megaranger. Heck, even when I had just gotten into Sentai and had barely watched any, Megaranger felt generic. Maybe watch it at some point, since it does have fans and you might like it, but I wouldn't say it's a priority.

I ultimately agree that Megaranger is just so bland in comparison to all others. It's far from bad, but it's really hard for it to stand out...
