The thought of Gen 3 getting remade is sickening. Gen 1 and Gen 2 got remade for the simple reason that the GBA and DS couldn't interact and trade with GB and GBC cartridges, leaving a large gap of unavailable Pokemon. However, the DS can interact with GBA cartridges (Classic model DS's, that is). You could transfer R/S/E Pokemon to Gen 4, which can trade to Gen 5 and, in Dec, can be transferred to Gen 6 via the Pokemon Bank.
In addition, thanks to the expanded rosters of recent games, the Dream World, and the PokeWalker, there is no real need for a remake of Ruby and Sapphire. The Gen 3 Pokemon are available all over the place, and at this point, it feels the only, truly unobtainable Pokemon are the Gen 3 starters (Sans Torchic because anyone with an internet connection or access to a Starbucks can get one) and the 3 cover Legendaries (No, I'm not going to count Deoxys and Jirachi because they were never obtainable in game in the first fucking place). Remaking Gen 3 would be a waste of time that could be spent further expanding Gen 6. It would only serve as nostalgia bait for a poor game that gets relentless praise for the most trivial of introductions and gimmicks. It's unneeded and would divert man power for no proper reason beyond "Because people can't stop bitching for one." If I've been too subtle over the entire thing, I hated Generation 3 of Pokemon.

While I don't hate them, I have no need for remakes either.

That's not technically true, as the only Pokemon missing from Diamond and Pearl were legendaries and starters. So the only difficult Pokemon to get in those games were all 3 starters (as Emerald only gave you 1), the legendary dogs/beasts/whatever (same, but FR/LG) and the event Pokemon.
I love Gold and Silver, but they didn't exactly NEED remakes either.

The same is not the case for Gen 3, which has easy interaction with Gen 4. The Gen 2 starters were completely unavailable. The Gen 3 starters can be bred and transferred by anyone with a DS or DSi.
