I've never gotten into Ultraman but I love this new design. The lighted blue highlights really make the character pop, and the series sounds fun. The younger cast does give the series more of a forward-looking feel and it's something that's been working for Sentai and Kamen Rider for years.
Are the dolls supposed to be a henshin item along the lines of Decade's cards and Gokaiger's keys? Sounds fun and collectible. Oh God, here we go again... |

Yeah, there is something brilliant about the way Ultraman Ginga pulls a Decade or Gokaiger by also using a collectible gimmick - except the gimmick is vinyl figures! Being so cheap, and yet more plentiful and aesthetically more interesting than a pile of switches or gaudy rings, these things are going to be fantastic.
Starting the new series on Ultraman Day is a nice touch too (others probably did it as well, haven't checked, but it's an especially important detail for an "anniversary" show!).

But Gridman is not an Ultraman, yes he's from Tsuburaya too but totally from a different series. Pretty much like Mirrorman, Fireman, Jumborg Ace, etc.

The thing about the Ultra Heroes is that when you put them all together, yeah, they all have the same basic color scheme of silver and red, and then some of them have blue in there as well.
But if you watch the different series and movies, you learn very quickly to tell them apart. It's no different than a daikaiju fan being able to identify a Godzilla suit by sight. There's no way to mistake, say, Ultraman and Ultraseven, or Ultraseven and Ultraman Leo. At least that's how it is personally.

Still. Least he looked different. Aside from a few ascetic (Yea, I butchered that) changes? Every single Ultraman looks like every other Ultraman.

You'll find that people who don't watch Kamen Rider or Super Sentai say the same thing.
