I think Tachibana suggested this when there were two or three unsealed undead left. Plus, in Shima's case, wasn't it explained that he was kind of helping Mitsuki maintain his humanity? In short, the situation there is quite vague.

I agree with this. Like I said, my main problem with Kenzaki and Hajime's friendship is that it's one-sided even at the very end. So I think OOO handled it better because it showed more clearly that Eiji's kindness paid off.
