Well, that fits the theme then. In first episode it just looks like she is her dad's secretary or something. I assume they explain it all. The skill sets are useful but it's like the Navy Seals showing up and asking me to go hunt terrorists because they think I have potential, then handing me a gun and wishing me luck.

Watched a little more of SPD, I really do love that SPD actually feels like a real police force, rather than just a backdrop for the action, even if their version of the future is about as convincing as Terra Venture was a spacestation. The show also has a great sense of humour and great action sequences.
That said, I'm really not that hot on the characters. I find both Bridge and Syd very unconvincing as two trained officers, I mean I know they've proven themselves in unmorphed fights and don't judge a book etc etc but idk, they just don't click for me. Z has nothing to her aside from forced sass and an accent that drops and comes back again whenever she can be bothered to act. And Jack so far is possibly the worst Red ever, as he is a completely unlikeable douchebag. Ironically I think I actually like Sky the most, I know he is unlikable but at least it is on purpose with his character and at least he actually convinces as an officer, even if he is a bit childish at times. The show also, in places, feels incredibly dumbed down and censored, even for Power Rangers.

Just watched the Sam two parter of SPD, what is it with Kalish and picking casts that don't match up to the height or build of the suit actors?
In terms of the actual story, I do like that much like with Ninja Storm they have given an actual in story reason to have civilian powers...that being said as they don't have their powers in the Sentai footage it just seems like an odd addition because it just creates more problems than it is worth. I mean we know why they aren't in the morphed footage but they've yet to drop their pseudo explanation bullshit to explain why they haven't used their extremely useful powers even when they've had their asses handed to them. Even the actual sentai powers are poorly handled with the Rangers pulling random powers and abilities out of their asses with no explanation at all. Then again it isn't quite as contradictory as it was in Dino Thunder when Connor got superspeed but Trent's signature morphed move was a Superspeed attack even though his power was camouflage. Also Mora is annoying as shit and Sam's actor was awful. Although the biggest problem with the episode is me finding out that Kat is a GILF. I want to fancy her, cold dead eyes because of extremely cheap contacts and all, but I said my cut off was ten years older than I am and she's like ten times older than that. ![]()

If SPD has more episodes like 'Idol' it could well be my new favourite series.
The storytelling was fairly rushed because it only had twenty two minutes and it filled in a lot of the blanks with clichés but it told a very grown up story that wasn't hampered too heavily by the usual assumption in children's broadcasting that all children are morons. It actually felt really out of place with how heavy handed and heavily censored the storytelling has been up until this point. What a great episode. What is with SPD's anti capitalism messages? Practically every episode associates money with evil, which you know is pretty ironic when you think of what goes on behind the scenes with Power Rangers even during the Disney era. It also seems like a message that would really go over children's heads, personally money was only a means to get toys as a child and I never really realised all the ramifications and importance of money until the last few years when I've been looking after myself. At least episode ten explains to some degree why Jack is such an asshole and the team have some nice chemistry. Are Syd and Jack gonna bumpuggle it? Although the sentai blending that episode was absolutely dire. "Enough posing! Let's fight!" Also wow, Doggie's backstory sure was dark.

Anyone know what Power Rangers series are on the UK netflix? Or know where I can find out? I've been relying on torrents of dire quality and I'd happily pay to rewatch some old series in good quality.
