Is Gamestop really as bad as I've heard it to be? There's no Gamestop here in Australia, just EB Games (which apparently is a subsidiary of Gamestop) which I've had nothing but good experiences with.

It's a case by case basis. The GameStop near me is run by some pretty cool dudes.

It's like most chains, it all depends on the staff. Most of the ones I've been to have been chill, but then there are others that I never want to set foot in again.

Gamestop acquired a bad reputation after years of pushing marginally discounted used games and making their workers meet subscription quotas.

Things have gotten better since new ownership and a brush with bankruptcy, making a lot of people realize that Gamestop is one of the last vestiges of video game cultural presence.

Yeah, it's all about the sliding scale of villainy in capitalism. Everyone hated Best Buy for putting independent electronics stores out of business, but then when Amazon came along, Best Buy suddenly didn't look so bad. GameStop may be a corporate chain (with all the baggage that implies), but at least it's a place you can go to and talk about games.
