Keep in mind I say that in jest. I don't think the show revolves atound Daigo as much as the popular opinion would have you think, but there are times when Daigo feels like a shonen anime protagonist.

From these opening four episodes, it is less so the sheer focus on Daigo and more so the lack of focus on anything else.
Like an RPG, we see Daigo gather his team as one by one they reveal their civilian forms but minus the scene where Daigo and Ami speak to Souji's Dad, Daigo has exclusively talked the team round which only further draws attention to the lack of anyone helping him, as the team grows. What is everyone else doing, while he's forming the team? Facetious perhaps but with the way Daigo makes every character moment about him, I honestly don't feel I know the characters well enough to know why he is doing everything on his own. And that is in four episodes

Children also love juvenile gags, and since this is technically a children's show, those aren't aimed at us. Besides, Kyoryu did a good job of balancing juvenile gags with more mature moments, so it is all good. |

Megaranger 15
A solid Episode again. Nothing to mahor plotwise and it didnt really further Shuns character beyond showing his infiltration and tactical skills. Action was solid too so no complaints there. Megaranger 16 What a wonderful Episode this was. Seeing our five Heroes coming to terms with them dying was really touching and made me appreciate all of them alot more then I already did. Especially seeing Shun who up until now was very calm completely losing it was pretty darn impressive. I especially liked that after they made the decision to just make there last hours on earth worthwhile they were faced with the fact that they are not the only ones that got affected by the poison. The last battle was so incredibly bad ass and showed that when all of them put their hearts in it they will never bow down to Nezirezia. This was by far my favourite Episode yet and I cant wait to see were the show goes from here. Megaranger 17 & 18 Those two Episodes make up sort of a mini arc if you so will. The first Story involves the Megaranger going on a School field trip to a lake, were the Nezirezia try to hatch the eggs of Gama Nezira using a special liquid that enhances ones evolution. During the fight Miku is accidentaly hit and is now granted with enhanced strenght and intelligence. It was a pretty nice Episode that involved the relationship between Chisato and Miku and it was nice to see Miku behave the exact opposite of her usual personality. The whole story of excepting who you really are is always nice to see and was handled quite well. The only gripe I have with this Episode is yet again Chisato. She is by no means a bad character in any way she is just not very interesting to watch. The next Episode is a continuation of the field trip adventure in which we see Kouichiro trying to protect the nearby forest not just against the Nezirezia but also against Inet. It was a good Episode and up until the end the whole environmental message was pretty well handled. Making the forest a real character personified through a little kid was a good move and you could really feel Kouichiros dilemma. I enjoyed this one quite a bit especially the Mecha fight was really well done. The only thing that kinda ruined it for me was the really cliched dialogue between Kouichiro and Chisato at the end. With this it really felt too on the nose what message they tried to convey. All in all it was a nice change of pace from the usual setting and it seems that next Episode awaits us a major status quo change. Last edited by Baltan II; 02-27-2014 at 02:30 AM.. |

Carranger 4 and 5
I love the Bowzack. They're the least threatening villains ever. And as goofy as this series is, it actually has some interesting twists on the standard Power Rangers/Sentai formula. Like the Bowzack actually having to learn they can grow giant and figure out how. Also like how the Carrangers are so excited over getting a combining robot that they WANT the Bowzack to attack. Where did the instruction manual for the zord even come from?! I guess it just appeared when their cars did... The music in this series is pretty awesome too, especially when they first morph and summon their zords/machines-or-whatever they're called here. I don't even know what to say about the monster and his bell button lint problem. Oh the Zord talks. Well, I know that Sentai zords tend to be sentient a lot of the time, but I really wasn't expecting it here. In hindsight, I probably should have though. RV Robo's finishing pose is pretty badass. Though even when watching turbo, I never thought their spinning move was as ridiculous as it seems here. Then again, I don't remember Turbo havign a scene of them spinning around in the cockpit. Aha, they actually clean their zords after a battle?! That's new. Probably takes a while though. But man will they even grow giant every episode. They have to buy a specific type of snack from a specific vendor. What happens if that store runs out? Also the family that the Rangers interact with has to have the shittiest luck in the world. |

Kyoryuger 8.
As we go from the formation of the team, to now providing greater focus on the members in it and also introducing a new Zord and Ranger, it doesn't even feel like I've just skipped three episodes at all. Honestly I can't even imagine what they could have been about to not even notice I skipped them. Also Nobu's sister is a babe. In terms of the episode, this was surprisingly fucked up. Parading peoples lost loved ones in front of them, which draws them into a labyrinth in another dimension that they can't escape from. Even the ultimate way to escape from the labyrinth was kinda twisted, in that Nobu's sister had to accept her husband was dead. Not exactly the most uplinking or cheerful way to resolve this. It was a strong episode from Nobu duh it was a focus episode for him - but I loved the line "Probably because I'm a superhero." That is my kind of Ranger. Also, aw, is he wearing Keichi's jacket? It wasn't flawless though, I'm guessing Rika's explanation for not getting tricked was supposed to be emotional and powerful but I was more distracted by how she sounded like no child ever. "Are you saying I'm not one of the smart ones?" Ami asks, to which King gives a nod so cocksure, I can't help but wonder if this is allegory for the way sentai treats women. Oh yeah and the fucking tickle battery, that can get fucked. Kyoryuger 09. This show is a lot darker than I remember it being meaning in turn the goofiness is even less fitting than I realised, even if the show itself doesn't seem to realise how dark some of its concepts are. From the Spirit Rangers and the inherent notation that there are those who have died fighting as Kyoryuger, the scenes of Utchy's friends murdered on the battlefield by Deboss and the scenes of Pteragordon rampaging in the city as people scream and run. This episode also had some great action. They really are a strong, functioning team - King is especially badass, but this episode really did a good job of making each member of the team feel purposeful - at least until Ami and Souji got captured, dammit >.<. Although I love Go-Buster Ace, Evil Pteraidenoh is one of the coolest mechs ever . Also it is awesome is seeing KyoryuGold fight in the past. About the only downside of the episode, is that Evil Pteraidenoh's time in the sun is so brief, and that the flashback with KyoryuGold is so rushed. The Cambeastian is so goofy looking considering it's meant to be this elite monster. Plus the whole twist with DoGold is super dumb.

Megaranger 19
Such a fantastic Episode that really upped the ante for the five Megaranger. We get introduced to a new Nezirezia General named Girell who different from Yugande or Shiborena isnt afraid to play dirty. His first action is to overrun the City with an army of KuneKune and tries to kidnapp the children. During that fight Kenta accidentaly hits one of his friends from the arcade and puts him in the hospital. This puts Kenta into a deep crisis as he begins to question if hes even worthy to fight the Nezirezia if he cant even stop in time before hurting an innocent bystander. I like when Characters like Kenta have to question how they operate and if there is a middleground between his impulsive and hotheaded nature and a more calm behaviour he obviously is lacking up until now. What I liked the most was seeing all the other Megaranger reacting according to there personality hwen Kenta tried to quit the team with Kouichiro trying to help him to cope with his current situation. Through Kentas crisis we learn a little more about Dr.Kubotas past and what he did before he joined Inet. I absolutely loved Girell in this Episode and by that I mean I absolutely hated him ![]() His voice in conjunction with his design just kills it and man that laugh is giving me the creeps. Megaranger 20 Sadly not as good as last time this one was still alot of fun. After Girell starts to mess with the Nezirezia Monsters he successfully creates a beast that has the ability to split in two creatures. At the same time the Megaranger are made aware that Inet has build a new Mecha for them to use but they need the control program frem the chief scientist that works on the project. The only way to get it though is to fire his son that is the chief mechanic on Galaxy Mega and the new robot called the Delta Mega. It was nice seeing how other people are affected by the war between humanity and the Nezirezia and that Inet doesnt just employ Kubota, that other scientist and a bunch of non-japanese people that neither speak good japanese nor good english ![]() I liked that Kenta starts to dial down his impulsive behaviour and actually apologized after he got into a fight with the Mechanic and actually managed to befriend him. The whole story about the Mechanic and his father was kinda nice but I really would have liked if we had gotte more background on why he didnt want his son involved in the fighting. The Mecha fight at the end was pretty cool but not as cool as some of the others we saw in this show. One thing I have to ask though is what Idiot decided to put the activation button for Delta Mega right next to the self destruct button and not label the damn thing. Its like they wanted the thing getting blown to bits ![]() |

Kyoryuger 10. Super sentai, the only place where the giant robots are more convincing than the facial hair.
God the first half of the episode was awful from start to finish. From them trying to give a scientific reason to KyoryuGold's sword skills - only to then directly contradict it in the very same scene, and then again KyoryuGold's introduction and make it worthless that Daigo can block it on the first attempt and it becomes similarly worthless when you actually see it put in practice. And then there is the long string of goofy practical gags like Amy's footsie skills, to the Violet Beauregard battery, to the fart battery to the infuriating announcer. Luckily the second half was great minus the three instances I've already listed. I love how active the Commanders are in this show, even if they are mostly pretty rubbish, and it really did capture the chaos of an all out battle really well. This show has fantastic visuals, clearly a big budget and just some really imaginative people behind the camera. It was even better because Souji was an all round badass this episode, he really stood out despite it not being focused on him. Plus this is our first trip out for Gold, who has one of the most AMAZING introductions I've ever seen. Even the horrendous dancing bends to pure badassery when it's done by him. It made me feel like a child again, the introduction of the sixth was always my favourite part of Power Rangers and KyoryuGold is so COOL.

Megaranger 21
This one showed again how different Girell operates from the other Nezirezia Commanders. Like the last two times his tactic is to try and overcome the Megaranger through sheer numbers. At the same time though his plan has another layer to it that puts the heroes in a real difficult position. Girells new Monster has the ability to revive old Nezire Monsters and so keeps the Megaranger occupied when one of them turns giant so they cant fight in Galaxy Mega and have to call for Delta Mega. Girell uses this oppurtinity to override the controls for Delta Mega and uses it to destroy the city. I absolutely loved how the heroes had to think on their feets to regain control over their new robot. I loved that even when it looked like the only way to stop it was to destroy Delta Mega that Kenta just couldnt give up and put his whole heart into it. The fight between Galaxy Mega and Delta Mega was really spectacular and Ithink this was the first time that the show acknowledged that during every fight there are over a hundred people inside of Galaxy Mega. The Super Galaxy Mega combination was pretty cool but the fight didnt blow me away. Its just moves so slow in comparison to Delta Mega or Galaxy Mega. Girell is definately shaping up to be one of the harder Villains to beat and I cant wait what his next move is going to be. Megaranger 22 A nice focus Episode for Miku and Shun that develops their relationship a bit more. This time its Yugande and Shiborenas turn to try and defeat the Megaranger once and for all. Their plan is to set up invisible portals all over the country that teleport people to different locations seemingly at random. During a fight with the Megaranger Shun and Miku are teleported away through one of the portals and have to find out more about them so they can return to the others before the Nezirezia can create more portals all over the world. It was one of the typical Sentai crazy labyrinth Episodes that usually uses alot of crazy visuals. In that regard this one was pretty disappointing since the Rangers are just send to different places in Japan and not really other dimensions. Shund and Miku play off one another pretty well with Shun being the one who uses his mind while Miku just does things much like Kenta. The Action was okay but nothing too spectacular. What I really liked was that the Megaranger finally got a more traditional roll call. As solid Episode but nothing that really furthered the Story or the Characters except for bringing the Shun X Miku thing up again. |
