Boukenger 04.

I love the use of mecha in this show, although it's just another arm swapping gimmick, it's just all so well designed and implemented. The mecha actually feels like a core aspect of the series, and not just something tacked onto the end of the episodes for toy sales.

It's just full of really great ideas really, love how their mecha power their suits and they're like power suits rather than just colourful costumes. It makes the powers feel like a *thing* which sentai seems to do so rarely.

Sadly I like the objects in this show more than the people, if Daigo had too much focus the Chief has way too little. I mean it was an episode focused on him, but everything about his personality, motivations and backstory are just generic hero bullet points, they gave absolutely no greater insight into him as a person.

That is kinda the problem with all of the characters so far, we know Souta used to be a spy who grew sickened with what his spying did to people but that still doesn't really give us any insight into him as a person.

We know Natsuki lost her memory, and is on a quest to find her memories but that isn't an excuse for her to be defined solely by how annoying she is.

Then we have Masumi and the pink one, who are both basically bits of the scenery, and Masumi only stands out at all because he's such a raging dick - and has bad teeth.

But I didn't know anything about Dynaman. Who returned from that series?

I never felt much connection to Torin, but for them to be crying over a fake statue so convincingly, made it pretty poignant all the same. I should probably comment on the acting more, because for a camera so focused singularly on Daigo, or the under aged girls around him, the whole cast are really fantastic. Seeing everyone dealing with their own grief during these scenes while being slammed firmly in the background showed they were putting in more effort into their performances than the show honestly deserves.

Really disappointed in the development of Carnival, so lame having the same gimmick as the mecha and mixing all the colours together really doesn't work for such a busy suit already. Not to mention the clustered, clunky and clusterfucky way he has to lock in the batteries and transform. Base Carnival is great, Climax is ugly and boring. The backup fight was actually way more impressive, it's a real shame that wasn't the focus, but I realise now hopes for stuff like that are pointless.

Dat song though, so bad, although the genetic memory thing isn't quite as horrible as I might have expected.

I thought, like, Dyna Black was Souji's dad and Dyna Red was Dantetsu. Not sure though.
Yeah, Dantetsu is someone else, but I'm pretty sure he was the Red from some '80s Sentai. Besides that, there's that one monster voiced by Ninjaman...
EDIT: So he was one of the main villains in Fiveman, interesting.

The use of mecha of Boukenger is really good. Much like with Go-Busters, they take what could simply be a toy commercial and shape it into a great narrative piece of the show.

Souji shines in the fight scenes, but has no character outside of them like literally none. We know he was raised on sword fighting at the expense of over things, and goes to school. That is the entire extent of our grasp of him as a person.

Ian is the total opposite, but because of Daigo everything good about Ian always gets overshadowed, his direct connection to Deboss, his leadership skills, Daigo screams over all of it and he's utterly wasted.

Nossan and Utchy are the only core Kyoryuger's which I can say I genuinely love, but Tessai is probably my firm favourite.

Yeah I love it at every level, I've never loved sentai mecha before, but man this shows mecha is just wonderful.
