Yes and no. They turned into light to attack Zangyack and thats how they lost their powers. After the attack they were scattered around the earth. The 199 Heroes movie explains it a little better than the first episode did.

They pushed the Zangyack off of Earth by releasing their power which spread them throughout space, but didn't kill the Rangers, just left them powerless. Its shown a bit more in Goseiger VS Gokaiger, which is one of the few movies that actually matters to the plot. The movie itself is OK, it has a pretty great first 2/3s with lots of action, but suffers pretty badly from Ending Fatigue. It occurs between Episodes 16 and 17.

Kai's weird black coat and red hair look is from the last five minutes of Magiranger.

The rangers didn't die but sacrificed their powers during the Legendary War and those powers manifested into keys and was spread across the universe. The reason for Kai looking like a Jedi is at the end of Magiranger he became a liaison between the surface world and Infershia and took on his father legacy by wearing his traditional Magitopian robe.

As for MagiDragon, they have to earn the grand power of the respected sentai before using it. The next episode will explain it well.

They're the same movie, it just has a ridiculously long name like Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger VS Goseiger: 199 Great Hero Battle so it gets abbreviated as either Gokaiger VS Goseiger or 199 Hero.

Wow Super Megaforce, visually, is like a shot for shot remake of this. It looks at times, like they literally edited the Rangers into Gokaiger footage. While we're on that topic, I kinda wish Nick got a chance to cameo, as they could have done some really interesting things with this episode, given that MagiRanger and Mystic Force approach magic very differently. I wonder what kind of tests Nick would create? And it woulda worked really well too, given Noah is defined by being constantly unsure of his own abilities, he and Nick could relate a lot.

I'm also really surprised they didn't use that Black Gokai change for Megaforce. Sure no one likes Alien Rangers, but that is one of Tommy's suits and a girl version of one of the RPM Rangers. Seems a better change to use than all of the fucking sentai only teams they used. I mean I know they transformed, but we never saw the fight.

Speaking specifically of this show, the White Change was pretty great, as Big One is probably the only sentai hero to actually look like a proper superhero. That suit is awesome. Is JAKQ subbed? I don't care much for MagiRanger but knowing how different these characters are, to who they change into, was fun in a meta sort of way.
