Back to Den-O today--I'm in the mid-20's--Sieg and Zeronos have both shown up, they're pretty cool. Nice to use this show as a palate cleanser between the "heavier" Rider shows I've been watching recently.
I did love Deneb's "Let me say this: . . .I have nothing to say." ![]() |

So episode 5 of OOO was better but still not great. It was fun to see Eiji take some of his own initiative finally, as he was pretty much overshadowed by a rubber hand up until this point. There is nothing inherently wrong with him, but I just think Gen is a really great protagonist who ticks all the boxes and Eiji just feels a lot less interesting in comparison. That said, considering Eiji is quite the fighter when he henshins, I would have liked to have seen him stand up for himself more and not just run away. What is it with Kamen Rider protagonists who have insane fighting skills when they transform but are practically a spare part the rest of the time?
Either way it's nice to watch a series where the villains get directly involved, right from the beginning, even if the villains aren't all that impressive at this point for story reasons. I can't wait to see these guys at full power. And I like that they are going for a hole horror thing with the Greed but after watching Kuuga this all feels so very tame. Plus, one thing I really didn't miss from Wizard was the asshole of the week style of story telling that OOO uses as well. Eurgh. Episode Six was once okay but nothing special. That Happy Birthday guy is cool in how odd he is and the fights were still ambitious, even if the new form was kinda underwhelming. And I will say that even with the running away in the last episode, they've at least put in more effort to convince Eiji is in the suit than they did with Godai in Kuuga. But it still just isn't clicking for me in the same way Fourze has. Speaking of Fourze, just watched episode ten, how can you dislike a show with this much heart? Episode ten had me grinning like a fool. This episode was also really well shot and directed as well, I loved the heartfelt conversation between Gen and Tomoko on the moon and the use of associated close ups. It even made some sense of the whole teenager thing, being that the way teenagers are, they can access aspects of the Switches others couldn't. Sorta like the Power Rangers I guess. It's kinda dumb but after Kuuga I'm happy that the series wants to try and explain itself. Also, Fire States is awesome. Electric States feels kinda pointless, Fire States came so soon after it and outshined it so thoroughly.

OOO is much better with the asshole of the week, since, well, most of them aren't total assholes and have clear, sometimes really unique motivations beyond typical greed.
Though that's also one of my issues with the show, but I won't say anything until you get there. Also yeah, Gatakiriba wasn't exactly incredible, (though I like his cloning ability and how all the clones do scanning charge together. Also it does someting REALLY cool in the last movie) afterall we've seen two thirds of him since episode one, but the combos introduce at a curve, relatively. Especially when you realise how many he's got by the end of the show, and that all of them can interchange. |

I will say that I'm glad OOO said its okay to want things. I was starting to find the whole theme kind of hilarious considering these shows are made to sell toys but Eiji turned that around with his speech in episode six. He's right, money is important, I hate the idealist attitude that you can have a great life with no money.
Os powers are cool but once again, watching this alongside Fourze who can attach weapons to his individual limbs, it's hard not to be a little underwhelmed by the subtle changes Os makes when he transforms. There has yet to be a power that really wowed me, even if all the fight sequences are deliciously ambitious.

I appreciate the more simplistic approach to OOO powers. Obviously six episodes in he doesn't have a heck of a lot to play around with, but as time goes on teh combos and swapping gets pretty aweosme. As you watch Fourze you will see how kind of fucking dumb his powers can get outside the popular, actually useful ones. I think one is seriously a pogo stick.
I really appreciate how OOO also treats desire/greed as not just being an acceptable aspect of human nature, but a necessary one. Yes, you should want things, money and possesions are important for happy living. It's not just "you want something so you're greedy and bad." I think one guy later is, like, addicted to the lottery, and then spends the last of his wife's money on a ticket, only to actually end up winning big, and to no serious detriment like he blows it all in a cliche way or becomes by riches. It's actually quite a mature and interesting situation. But that's also one of the things that kind of what-the-hell's for a second near the end of teh show. |

![]() There are a lot of silly switches though, I won't deny that.

Yeah, OOO isn't idealist or damning, it has so far found a great middle ground. Which isn't an easy thing given the subject matter.
