So. I was having a conversation with OOO, and while typing I kept looking at Gokai Pink in his sig. And something occurred to me.. Gia and Emma. They do act an aweful lot like Luka and Ahim, don't they? Enough that I can see them pulling off their mannerisms in combat...

There's a difference between having a nod here and there then having it forcefully and awkwardly put into every second sentence and scene like it was in the first episode. Not to the anniversary should spread to all 20 seasons of Power Rangers, and so far they've concentrated completely on the first. It annoys me because they only seem to be focusing on the first season with their nods and those nods are really badly dropped in, an anniversary does not have to have "Remember when they said this exact same line in the first episode of the first season?" every couple of minutes. Compare to Gokaiger; Goranger had an even amount of nods to every other series, it even shared first episode tributes with Shinkenger and Magiranger in the first episode. It came across much less nostalgia whore-y to the first season of a show that is meant to be celebrating every season.
And yes, its early and hopefully they will redeem this, but this thread is about opinions after the first couple of episodes and looking at how the toyline thus far has ONE non Megaforce or MMPR toy, the anniversary seems to be almost completely ignoring other seasons for the time being which in my opinion absolutely sucks.

Firstly, JDF is not a ranger, Tommy is, so that's a really weird argument (not to mention as much as he cares about fans JDF has shown himself to be a bit of an ass on multiple occasions, especially to other PR actors, so he doesn't get a "great person" bonus). And secondly and more important to what I was actually saying, I was comparing achievements; Andros (albeit using Zordon) saved the entire universe including defeating Rita/Zedd's army, the Machine Empire and Divatox's army all of which fought Tommy far more then him. I just find a really hard pill to swallow when Power Rangers seems to force-feed us the idea that he is the greatest ranger ever when his achievements are far more minor to most other Red Rangers. Nostalgia ignored, Tommy hasn't done anything to really earn that title over other rangers either then being in lots of teams.
And no, he is not a good actor, at all. His acting in Dino Thunder was not much better then his earlier acting at all and I'm sorry but that is really the truth, for example, just check out his reaction to when he finds out that Trey knew Mesagog's identity; its the most cringe-worthy attempt at scorn and disappointment I have ever seen. Andros' acting wasn't anything to get excited about either but I never said it was. They were both terrible; Andros still holds the biggest victory in the PR Universe though and I don't see why he wouldn't be considered as good or even better then someone who's main achievement is being used for nostalgia a lot because he was popular with kids in the early 90s.

Not really, no. However, the Black Ranger's podium in the base is lit up green like they know he's not going to be Black forever.

You do realize that the first season of Megaforce is just Goseiger right? And that in Tensou Sentai Goseiger there were no references to past series'? The nods and tributes to other seasons will come in Super Megaforce. And every second sentence? That's a bit of a reach.

Tommy is the most popular character from any past season of Power Rangers. He just is. He constistantly wins fans polls on the subject. That's why they're bringing him back. When old skunk-hair wins a poll, then we're talk. And don't act like he took out Zordon because he knew it was the only way to save the universe. He had to be drug into kicking and screaming every step of the way. Like everything else that season. He had to be forced into his battilizer, he had to be forced to letting the Earth Rangers on the team, he had to be forced to accepting Zayne was alive. The entire season would've been seven episodes shorter if only they didn't have to waste time pulling Andros into something while he threw a hissyfit.

Of course I know where most of the mecha and suit footage comes from and I hope you are right about the other tributes, but Megaforce is still being advertised as part of the 20th Anniversary and I was hoping they wouldn't just focus on the first season for it. It was exaggerated, but it was still, to me, an annoying aspect of the first episode.

I know that he's popular, but I still feel like they should still base on-screen hype over characters with what we've actually seen on screen. There hasn't been any confirmation on his return though, has there?

I used Andros as an example of another Red Ranger who had achievements equal to Tommy, which he did have, Tommy didn't do anything more remarkable then Andros that I can recall off the top of my head. He's not the only example though, honestly I think many rangers have managed greater or equal feats to Tommy, Leo taking Trakeena down by himself, is another example I think is good (although I think the chances Saban giving Danny Slavin any hype is close to zero). I understand the reason Tommy is hyped so much is because of his popularity, but that doesn't mean I think its fair; I don't like the idea of titling anyone as "the greatest ranger" is fair at all in a show that's main element is team work in the first place. The fact I personally have no nostalgia attached to him as it is only recently that I saw all the seasons of Power Rangers also helps make me view Tommy as nothing hugely special too.

It just started. They'll expand into the other seasons. But you have to remember something else: The first three seasons, before it became Zeo, were the most popular of Power Rangers. So there's going to be alot geared towards those first few seasons.

Are they bringing Tommy back? I hadn't heard any word except they haven't asked JDF and he seemed apathetic about the whole thing and wasn't sure if he had the time to do so.

In a recent interview with Christopher Khayman Lee (Andros) he stated that he wasn't too keen on the idea of going back for an Anniversary spot or not, and he seemed to also not realize that he has a really large fanbase. (Not as big as Tommy's, but the guy thinks himself pathetic or something.)

Also, something nitpicky here, but it's "Zhane." I love that name so much, I gave it to my son as his middle name when he was born.

Overall Im am enjoying it qiute a bit. Its not painful to watch PR anymore. better writing, acting, just evything is worlds better than samurai (except that damn theme) Please have ron wasserman do the Ultra Megaforce theme or you will be dead to me saban.
