I am loving Kyoryuger! Not the first sentai I watched but it is my favorite. Finally a Red that I can really enjoy. Actually the whole cast I'm enjoying. I am so happy to enter this season as my first currently watched season. I could just go on and on about it but I'll save some for later

I'm rapidly cooling on the show. The monster designs have not even slightly grown on me, the characters have pretty much devolved into one-notes already (or background features in Ian and Souji's cases), and the overzealous kid appeal is leaving me flat. I kind of liked the idea of the batteries and how they work, but the effects are just so... stupid. A gun that shoots lust? A power that turns you into a balloon? The fart one? I know you're trying to course correct from Go-Buster, Toei, but this is ridiculous.
I'm having a lot of trouble with the storyline, too. The show's pacing is, like Go-Buster's, pretty abysmal. The difference is only that Go-Buster's plot barely moved at all, but Kyoryuger's rushes by so fast that it's hard to keep up. And all of this is really doing a disservice to the characters, none of whom are given time to breathe. Daigo, in particular, is also really starting to annoy me. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but someone over at HJU summed up my frustrations with him perfectly: Daigo's just too perfect. We've had Sentai characters who need to spend entire episodes training to overcome a powerful enemy - last week Daigo managed to totally see through and defeat Utsusemmimaru's ultimate attack in one go. I really hate pulling out the Mary Sue label, but Daigo is pretty much a prime example and it really frustrates me. I don't plan to stop watching the show anytime soon (it's not Gosieger-level bad, after all), but I'm already starting to put off watching new episodes and the show's going to really need to change up what it's currently doing if it wants to win me back (and I'm not sure it does). |

I don't know why you think its going too fast, they have set up a lot in the first episode as well as some other episodes. I know Gold Ranger is coming sooner then most other rangers but he has also been around like the other rangers from the past.
I think soon, Daigo will run into some trouble and we will see that reflect on his character and attitude. I like him and he reminds me of the superheroes I love. |

Has my favorite costume designs as a whole for the Sentai themselves. Villains are meh. Kyoryu Cyan made me want to skip certain episodes. The whistling song gets old in the first episode. The character interaction is really nice though, and the show has a good sense of humor.

I loved the opening episodes, but as the show has descended further and further into what feels like a parody series, with more immature gags than drama or action, I'm really starting to hate it. There is a big difference between comedy and picking your nose and eating it, even with a show aimed at children.
There are some stunning action scenes, some great costume designs and some awesome special moves so I just hope the Power Rangers adaptation isn't so goofy and moronic. |

Trying to think of the right way to word this...
Has the show gotten a bit less...silly yet? Like has it had any genuine drama or dark episodes or anything a bit more mature? Or is it still really silly, everyone singing and dancing and all that crap that put me off from the first few episodes?

The rest of an episode is still all dancing, King's neverending optimism, and silly monsters. But that 1 and a half minutes worth of back story for Ian is generally played straight and seriously.

I'm so glad I jumped ship months ago, this series really wasn't and clearly still isn't for me.

The only time the show has come anywhere close to not being as silly is during Ian's back story bits.

But that 1 and a half minutes worth of back story for Ian is generally played straight and seriously. Yes, there's silliness. But don't try and paint the whole series like that. It has tender and honest moments. (And Candillera in a black thong, so) And I just figured out Nobuharu is the same age as I am. ... I really am the Nossan ![]() |
