The only reasonable explanation I could gather for that (since there are no actually recordings of that) is that while Rider was very popular at the time toei didnt have the finances to sustain three major shows through the 90s. Sentai and Metal Heroes were both annual franchises at that point while Rider was known for having giant breaks between each series (Super-1 and Black being six years apart) so it would seem logical to put Rider on hold because the audience would be used to seeing that with Rider.

Kamen Rider only became an annual Franchise after Kuuga and at that time there were no new Metal Hero shows produced so Toei would be able to finance Sentai and Rider on a year to year basis.

That would make sense. Perhaps they intended for a short break that went on longer than they expected. And you're right, Rider only became a staple show with the Heisei era.

One of the recent HJU Radios talked about that. I can't remember if it was the V3 one or the Wizard finale one. Lynxara and Igadevil had some explanation... which I unfortunately don't remember. I think it was because Metal Heroes was doing well and Toei didn't want and/or didn't want to budget a third franchise.

I do know that the early 80s hiatus was due to Super-1's ratings tanking after it moved time slots. I forget why there was no third series after Black RX.

At the same time, though, the biggest complaint Japanese viewers had about Go-Busters was that it was trying to be for adults and not kids.

What does that have to with anything?

Akibaranger proves that there's a large enough adult fanbase for Sentai. I don't see what Go-Busters has to do with this.

Decade in Kamen Rider banked on the nostalgia factor but wasn't done that well.

And Kamen Rider is usually sufficiently mature to handle the material Akibaranger puts out, but Super Sentai is not.

I guess I should have stated it from the start, my bad.

True, but I'm not talking about the content, simply the fact that there's a Sentai targeted to adults, while Rider shows are ultimately targeted to kids.
