I watched some PR back when I was a Kid (mostly MMPR 3 and Zeo) and I always liked the fights and Robots. So when I was 16/17 I googled the show and watched Jungle Fury a season I liked at the time (not anymore for the record) and then I discovered Sentai and Rider. I watched some PR seasons like Lost Galaxy,Dino Thunder and RPM (still love em) but never got around to watching more PR stuff.
Mostly people told me I should watch the old Saban stuff like In Space,Lightspeed Rescue and Time Force but I never really had the time so I started watching the new Saban stuff. But it was really really terrible. So long story short (after telling the long story) I liked the fights not so much the stories and discovered shows with the same fights and for the most part better story telling. Still I like to keep an eye on PR cause it got me into the japanese stuff even though I dont have big childhood nostalgia for the show. |

LOL @ Samurai being the lowest rating. Anyway. I still have a couple of the middle episodes of the season to see but I thought it was a good season largely because they actually took creative liberties this time and it wasn't just a translation like Samurai. The Goseiger suits/mech also looked stunning in HD. I still feel like some of the dialogue and inflection in the dialogue especially in ADR is very weak. I don't really blame this on the actors, It just feels like they do it in one take. I also don't like it when they talk while fighting or constantly say unneeded things like "the earth is ours" "let's do this together, friendship is magic". that's not cheesy it's just stupid. the line "Earth's defenders, never surrender" is good enough and gets that point across so I don't see why they have to keep saying things like that over and over. I'm fine with a cheesy long morph sequence as filler as long as it is good. It also to me seemed a bit odd that they say all these g rated childish things yet still retain the dramatic demise of Metal Alice intact if not more dramatic than Goseiger. I know she was a robot but I was sorta expecting her to just explode quickly like a normal monster and not linger. I mean, i'm glad they did, just saying it's a bizarre contrast compared to other things but I guess that is PR.

The General Concensus so far is that it was an alright season. Nothing spectacular, but good. All they need to do, apparently, is can Troy

I voted poor. Power Rangers gets a bad wrap by a lot of the tokusatsu fandom for being a watered down version of the sentai series. For pretty much the entire franchise, that wasn't the case, but then Neo-Saban came along and decided that that was going to be his model for making the shows.
Hate on Samurai all you like, I certainly do, but at least most of the good characterisation and storytelling from Shinkenger made it intact, as Saban just lifted the whole thing and whitewashed the characters. Minus a token black dude. Yes it was extremely watered down, but at least it felt like an actual adventure. Megaforce on the other hand was truly watered down. Pretty much every episode was just all Goseiger footage, and then maybe we got an unmorphed scene as the credits were rolling. We had no plot, no characterisation, no drama. It was just pure garbage. The show attempted to set up plot, in the first three or so episodes there were lots of things the show could have followed up on, but all of that was just abruptly dropped and we just got a solid seventeen episode of fights. The only good thing to take away from Megaforce is Robo Knight, but he is not worth sitting through this series for. No way in hell.

It wasn't a watered down Goseiger though. It was completely different in plot and structure to the source material.

Exactly. No Angels, no Master Headder, no Tower of Heaven, no Brajira's Master Plan. The only thing Goseiger in this are the names they didn't change and the suits/mechs.

And essentially doing away with three factions of villains while at the same time keeping them as three different sets. I thought that was pulled off pretty well considering the constraints of fitting it all in 20 episodes.

No it wasn't a watered down Goseiger it was a watered down nothing, that is my problem. Water down the original sentai, but at least you still have that shows story and characters, which in Shinkenger's case were pretty great.
Water down the sentai to the point that all you do is ADR over the fight footage and nothing else? I'm not sure that even counts as a TV show.

Exactly. And look at the wonderful new footage we got of Alice and Vrak inside their base.
