However, having episodes about the character isn't the same as actually developing the character. Amy's episode with the uptight jerk, for instance, did nothing to develop her since she acted as the audience already expected.

And the last Souji focused episode, him feeling envious over Torin's swordplay, didn't really do much for him.

While Souji has had spotlight episodes, he always felt two dimensional to me. He just never felt more than a dude who is a sword specialist who is also a high school student. With this episode, Souji finally felt more than that in my book.
