Those shows tended toward some common weaknesses, principally too many filler episodes / too insubstantial an overall plot. (I'm not implying, though, that these were bad shows or that people shouldn't enjoy them.) ToQger had a problematic premise: the Big Secret severely limited what kind of stories they could tell, and what the show could do with the core team for a lot of the series. Both Wizard and ToQger didn't really know what to do with many of their supporting casts. (There are exceptions, I know.) Wizard, Gokaiger, and Shinkenger had relatively (with some notable exceptions) bland main villains. Basically, each show had a reasonably series core flaw that could've been avoided with steadier hand guiding the show.

But that's just me worrying aloud. There are plenty of reasons to look forward to Zyouhger: the animal forms and essentially-alien cast COULD be really interesting. (Or they could be totally wasted, which Sentai has done a few times.) The 8-bit theme could produce some cool stuff. What little we know about the villains suggest they might not exclusively follow the often-repeated pattern of "Go forth, minion, and collect negative emotions!" There are a few indications that this series will try some New Stuff. Sometimes, creators with seemingly-average resumes have done some great stuff.

(Also, to be clear, I enjoyed most of the shows I was criticizing above. Also, most of those shows had strong casts, which is something we don't always get. I'm tentatively optimistic that we'll get a Sentai cast in which everyone's an at-least-good actor.)

Right now it looks promising, but to be fair so did Ninninger and look how that turned out. A huge waste of our time.

So our staff for this season is all checkered but they've done great things too. It could be one of the better seasons or its parvum opus. I'm giving this the benefit of the doubt but I have low hopes for this. Ninninger may as well have poisoned the well in my enjoyment of Sentai.
