Of the 3 Starter types, Fire, Water and Grass, here's how the stack up:
48 Fire types
109 Water types
74 Grass types

Water takes up about 1/6 of the Gen V National Pokédex.
Yeah, Fire needs more love. And Water needs for punishment from Electric and Grass.

Water getting the majority of Pokemon makes sense considering how the world works.

It's still ridiculous that a generation will introduce 49 new Water types and 9 new Fires *Glares at Gen III*
But the relative scarcity whilst not being absolutely barren is part of the appeal of Fire Types.

Oh, and nerf Stealth Rock. Seriously. That bullshit is getting old. 25% health for nothing? That's stupid (Talonflame will NEVER be used because of this. Losing 50% health on incoming is going to lessen it's appeal unless they seriously do something about Stealth Rock). At least Spikes need multiple layers and Poison Spikes can be soaked by Poisons and can be beneficial for a mon with Guts.

I can only think of 6 fire types introduced in Gen III

Combusken
Blaziken
Torkoal
Numel
Camerupt.
If there are three more then I can't think of them.

Gen III also only introduced four new electric types and in the national pokedex they all follow one another.

Ah. I must have counted available fire types, not just introduced ones (Though, technically, Castform becomes Fire during Intense Sunlight).
