So I like Suzuka Morita (Shinken Yellow), and I saw on her wiki that she was in a move called Mutant Girl Squad. And that it was on Netflix... so I watched it. That was a mistake

Went to see Frozen for a second time as the gf hadn't seen it. Still enjoyed it, but I love that Mickey Mouse short more and more every time I see it.

I feel like I'm missing out on something amazing because I need to wait for a DVD release before I can see Frozen

So I just watched The Wolf of Wall Street.
The incredible thing about The Wolf of Wall Street is on paper, it sounds awful. It focuses around the American Dream, stock markets and some guy I'd never heard of. Not only do I care about none of this stuff but it has no real importance to me either. But then you see it, that name 'Scorsese' and everything changes. Under Scorsese even mediocre actors like DiCaprio put in performances that brim with charisma and energy that are just so great to watch. And already fantastic actors like Matthew McConaughey put in some of the best performances of the year despite being in the film for fleeting moments. About the only thing not on point is Margot Robbie's accent, but she looks so insanely gorgeous in this movie, who cares? Under Scorsese characters sat around a table chatting about numbers is more adrenaline rush inducing than two giant robots fighting. It's incredible. That is a big key to why The Wolf of Wall Street works so well, Scorsese doesn't fuck around. Belfort's "poor" period is brief, and only stays for as long as it needs to get its point across, with the gratuitous excess being the central part of the flick. I know certain audiences hate these kind of morally backwards movies, and are probably just waiting for Belfort's downfall but I was happy to revel in Belfort's coked up dreamworld and was glad that they saved the unravelling to the very end and Scorsese didn't feel the need to end it in some kind of ridiculous gun fight. Too often these movies centralise themselves around the undoing, with the coming doom hanging so heavy over the first act and a half that you can't even enjoy the part of the movie you're supposed to enjoy. It also helps that Terence Winter's based on real events screenplay is razor sharp. Comedy is mostly in the timing, true, but this has some of the most laugh out loud quotability I've seen from a movie from a very long time. The humour is also often fucking dark as well, with some scenes playing out like bizarre skits from some black comedy. Another strong point of Winter's screenplay is the way he is able to be unbiased. I didn't think that was possible, but here he somehow does it. Belfort is undeniably the villain, and Winter's never claims otherwise, but Belfort is never a pantomime villain. He also is constantly allowed to enjoy himself, even though the movie makes no qualm in pointing out what he is doing is wrong. This helps please people on both sides of the fence, even if those who want the movie to come down hard either way will probably be disappointed.

Locke, Leo is far from a mediocre actor. Ten years ago I would have agreed. But after the likes of The Depart, Django Unchained (his best role thus far), Inception, Body of Lies, I can NOT agree with you at all. The man has proven himself. He was the only thing worth watching out of The (not so) Great Gatsby. Wolf though, is a good movie, but there is no reason for it to be 3 hours long as there was no pay off at the end.
We are going to see Frozen again tomorrow, but I'm pretty damned pissed the 3D version is no longer running, as that was the whole point we were going to see it again. If it weren't for making plans to see it with four of our friends who have not seen it yet, we wouldn't bother. Anyway, The Godfather - After years of seeing all of the parodies, homages, copy cats, I finally see where it all began and to be quite honest, I'm not sure what to think. The movie itself was extremely well done. I loved the characters, the story, the cinematography, and the acting. My favorite scene is by far the baptism execution scene. However, as much as I enjoyed it, I'm not sure I would consider it to be one of the greatest movies ever made. It is close, but just not there. That does not mean it was bad, but I was not blown away as the movie seems to have done to others. Nevertheless, Al Pacino was down right awesome in this movie (although, I did not even recognize him at first) and I give the movie a great 9/10. Last edited by Dr Kain; 01-12-2014 at 06:57 PM.. |

DiCaprio is only good under a good director, he has no real talent himself.

Very few actors are good outside of their directors, one of which is Johnny Depp. Anyway, The Birds - I went in knowing a little bit of what happens in the movie since it was parodied in "High Anxiety," and was also worried because I read there was absolutely no music in it at all. Well I come out with being highly impressed with the movie nonetheless. The lack of music had no effect on the movie whatsoever, which was an amazing feat in itself (as I tend to have a hard time getting into a movie without a score), but man, this movie was well done. Like the others I have watched, the movie is chock full of suspense, dread, has some great conversations about what is going on (such as the scene at the diner), and the characters are great. I kind of wished I had saved this one for a while longer as I still have 9 more movies on the set and I'm not sure if any of them are going to top the ones I have already watched, especially this one. The movie does a great job in both the effects to display the birds attacking and the sense of "what the hell is going on with these things?" throughout the entire thing. I definitely give this movie a 9/10. |

Oh yeah, I don't really deny any of that, but in the context of the movie I was writing about, DiCaprio was the only one who fit the bill.

While at the dentist I saw the beginning of Skyfall.
It was allright. Can't really comment as the sound was out and I was being gased. |
